RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 08-07-2014 He continued to hold her close. He felt secure. He felt safe. He felt wanted. He didn't want to let go. His fingers ran through her hair as he held her. He didn't want to leave the area but knew they would have to. He spoke as he held her. "I don't want to think of it but we'll have to return to Foster at some point," he said softly, "return to work if you will but this, this place, will be here so long as I breathe and if I.......we.......have our way about it, we can return here frequently." After a few minutes, his hands rested in her lower back so that he could lean back a bit and look to her. "In as much as I want to stay here with you, I'm wondering if we should continue on and get us some game," he quipped smiling, "I figured some fresh meat at Foster would be a nice food supply." He paused a moment and finished, "We still have tonight, tomorrow and that night at least." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 08-07-2014 Ashlea just nodded, not saying anything. She knew he would have to return to Foster, and eventually she would be sent home to Padua. "I will be based on Foster for some time... Until things begin to settle and fall into place...." This being said, she knew even then she wouldn't be based there long. The idea saddened her, she didn't attempt to hide it. At his mention of continuing on, she tryed to forget what would be happening in the next few days, instead focusing on what was happening now, more so she could enjoy her time without worrying about it coming to an end quite yet. "Well, I suppose it's not going to catch itself now is it." She sounded playful, poking her tongue at him before looking across making sure the horses were still around. Doc was right, they still had time here and with a bit of luck, she would be able to return. While their time here wasn't as long as she would have liked, it was still something. A thought crossed her mind and she stole a kiss from him before mumbling "So much for keeping this strictly business...." She smiled again, adding "I wouldn't change it..... Not for the world." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 08-08-2014 "Nor would I," he returned smiling, a kiss to follow. He gave her a light squeeze as he released her, knowing that they had to make some progress riding. Climbing on their now rested horses, they continued on. While the conversation was constant, he couldn't get her touch off of his mind. The only evidence of his thoughts were those occasional delays answering a question. They came out of a small patch of evergreens and could see the bare trees of a swampy area in the distance. Doc put his arm out to stop them both as he grabbed the binoculars. He wanted to see what, if anything, might be out. That's when he thought he saw something move. "I think we might have something out there," he said softly. Climbing off his horse and tying it to a nearby tree, he handed Ashlea the binoculars and pointed at what appeared to be an Elk at the swamp's edge. "Hard to tell from here but if he's in the water, it's to our advantage," he explained as he grabbed the heavy rifle. He looked down the scope to get a better view. As he looked, his smile grew. "Oh yeah," he whispered, "Ohhhh yeeeeaaahhh." "Ashlea, get your rifle ready," he told her, "we go on foot from here." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 08-08-2014 She noticed the delays, but they didn't bother her enough to make her question why. She almost missed his signal to stop, and certainly didn't see any movement. Her mind was still back by the stream, being close to him, He had her heart, and she had found her way into his. She wasn't able to explain how she felt, but she was enjoying the feeling. Once she did notice him signalling her to stop, she did so and climbed down off her horse, taking the binoculars from Doc, spotting the Elk for herself. She nodded and handed him the binoculars back before taking the horse across to a tree, close to the other, and tying it there. She couldn't help but shake her head while smiling at Docs obvious excitement. Taking her gun, she walked across and stood next to him. She waited for him to lower the rifle before stepping forward. While she wasn't sure on a lot in regards to guns, common sense told her to step out in front of one would be a rather silly thing to do. "What is the plan here." She spoke softly, even though it was still quite a distance away, she didn't want to disturb anything. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 08-08-2014 They crept closer, ever closer and even more quietly. It was at the water's edge of the swamp feeding on some grass. Although he looked in their direction, he paid no mind to them. Doc got closer not for his rifle but for her. He knew she was new to the Henry rifle but should the elk not drop, her shot was insurance. Finding an old, fallen tree, they took cover behind it. He took the heavy rifle and prepared to fire. "Listen," he whispered, "I intend to drop it in one shot but if it runs, open up on it. That rifle will shoot as fast as you can operate the lever." He then smirked, "Oh and um, this rifle is loud." He set up, burying the stock into his shoulder and dialing in his scope. He was aiming just below the shoulder for a heart shot. He sat perfectly still to allow a breeze to pass. Slowly, he squeezed the trigger and with a loud "boom," the rifle discharged. Ashlea would see what he meant in what he had said before about not firing it from horseback. Even prone and on the ground, it drove him back a little and some birds took flight at the sound. The shot hit it's mark and the animal began to bleed heavily as it tried to run. Doc wasn't sure that he scored a killing shot as he began to re-load. "Take a shot, Ashlea, take a shot," he hollered knowing that her rifle was faster to shoot. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 08-09-2014 While she took his warning, she hadn't expected it to be quite that loud. It startled her, but she kept the animal in the guns sights and no sooner had he told her to take the shot, she pulled the trigger firing two shots in close succession. She waited a moment, and the animal dropped. She raised the rifle and lent against the fallen log. Grinning, she shook her head as she looked across at him "You weren't kidding about that...." There was no movement and after the birds had left due to being startled, it was considerably quieter. She looked out across the swamp speaking quietly. "I think we got it." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 08-09-2014 He bobbed his head smiling, "Yes, I believe we did. Let's get the horses and find out." Getting the horses, Doc put his rifle away as they ran up to the fallen elk. "Yup," he said smiling, "We got it. Nicely done!" He then high fived her as he climbed to the ground to examine the kill. It was a full grown male. The blood still flowed from the initial shot while the other two shots took out a front leg. The animal was quite handsome....and big. Doc would have to drag it back on a skid pad he had brought. For now though, the gross part. He just smirked at her, "Let's find out what kind of outdoors person you really are," saying this as he pulled out a very large knife. "We gut it here and it's less of a mess later," he explained and pointed to one of it's front legs, "take that and hold it." With that, Doc drove the knife into the top of it's chest and pulled hard, opening the animal. He did so right to the carcass. He didn't know if she was watching but he then removed much of it's insides, placing them in a pile nearby. "Something will eat that later." He did, however, save the liver, wrapping them in some cloth. "This is good," he told her, "normally the heart is too but there's not much left of it." He unrolled the skid pad and together they tied the elk onto it, securing it for the drag home. Bloody from the mess, Doc began washing his hands and arms at the swamp's edge. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 08-09-2014 She did as he said, watching him gut the animal. She seemed indifferent about it. While he was washing up, she walked across and gave the horses some attention. "I use to go on patrols with the Rogues, often enough to become known by the law enforcers." She seemed to be more interested in the horses at this point, not looking at Doc while she spoke. "This one time, a wingman was hit... I was out of range by this point, I could have gone back and been safe. But I didn't. By the time I picked his pod up, he was in pretty bad shape. By the time I got him back to Padua...." She shakes her head "It's not the first time I have seen something like that." She stepped back from the horses finally looking in his direction once he had finished washing up. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 08-18-2014 He only heard a little of what she said, not enough for it to make sense at the time. The light splashing of water and enough distance from where he was to where she was with the horses further dampened a soft conversation. Standing up, he looked at his still blood stained shirt. "Ahhh.....dammit!" he said as he looked at his side, "I guess this is a loss." He stripped the shirt from his body, balled it up and placed it in one of his bags. After a brief search, he looked skyward with a scowl, "Of course I didn't think I might need an extra shirt. Of course I had to where a white one out here in case it got hot." He then looked over at Ashlea and removed his hat with a playful bow, "Do forgive me, Madame. It seems I soiled my shirt and will have only my bare skin to wear back to the cabin." He then put his hat back on and climbed aboard his horse. "And I do apologize for not catching whatever it was you were saying to me while I was vainly attempting to cleanse myself in the swamp's waters." The elk on the skid and Doc on his horse, he took a drink of water while he awaited Ashlea to ready herself. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 08-20-2014 She lost track of what she was saying as he removed his shirt, shaking her head at his apology trying to re-gather her thoughts "Believe me, I'm not in the least bit worried....." She didn't seem worried that he had missed what she said and after a slight shrug she turned away "I was rambling... It really wasn't anything important." She climbed on her horse and nodded when she was ready to continue the ride. "Will we head back now?" glancing at the skid, she assumed this would be the case. As much as she wanted to continue, she didn't want the horse to work harder then what was required. |
