Er there is a major problem with this statement. There are NO gunboats with a Counter Measure mount. At the minute, for some reason, it is extremely hard to run from Borderworld (Outcasts and Corsairs) Pirates unless they get distracted by other enemies. It doesnt matter what ship you have or what tricks/stunts etc you try, the only way to get clear of Outcasts and Corsairs with Cruise Distrupters is to kill them all, which means you risk getting mobbed when they call for help. Discovery mod v.4.79 bugs&suggestions - Kane - 01-27-2006 I think i'm in agreement that some of the bigger ships need some equipment, such as Countermeasures, mines, and possibly torps. The torps would have to have some disadvantages however, like being really slow and have zero tracking ability, or little turning ability, or something along those lines. Now, with the fighters becomeing obsolete, there isn't much danger there. The Battleship, while possibly never quite able to get that annoying fighter, shouldn't be considered just a traget. Battleships are the terror of the void in any Sci-Fi series/movie/game/comic. Hence, why i'm distressed that the Battleship is just a big target to any ace pilot with Novas. However, all this power comes at a pirce; the Battleship is slow, handles with all the grace and agility of a brick, and is enormous. They're restricted to tradelanes, planets, and stations, with all other places becoming unaccessable to them. This is where cruisers come in, generaly able to get into those asteroid fields and scrap yards the battleships are barred from (unless you like bouncing for 20 minutes then getting hopelessly stuck). I guess my main problem is that any single fool with Novas can take down a battleship. Notice, single. You would need at least a wing or two of fighters to take one on, much less down (wings being around 4 or 5 fighters)! So, if anything could be done to make it impossible if not suicidal to take on a Battleship (possibly cruiser) single handedly, I think I would be ok. The only thing that should be able to kill a battleship by itself other than another cap-ship is the Rheinland bomber with novas and Tizonas with an ace pilot. Other than that you would need 2 or more fighters to take it out. As an example if anyone has read star wars books it takes approximately 20 proton torpedoes to take down a Star Destroyers shield. then it would take another 28-35 to cripple the ship. The star destroyer would be like the RH BS, and the proton torps would be like the Sunslayer torps. Given that novas do about 5 times more than sunslayers we should need about 4 to take down a shield and six to seven to take down its hull and this is without armor upgrades. To take down a battleship that has armor upgrade of VII a fighter should need 30-40 novas in total to kill it if it also has shield/nano-bots. Also about the Outcasts and Corsairs disrupting your engines is normal. Those two factions are supposed to be the most elite pilots in the galaxy, and have the best weaponry. I agree with Igiss' plan to give them hornets. A person's last resort is to run not to turn and fight. You fight first then run. What if its costs somewhere between 40-100 million, I think as close to 100 million as possible. Also, make if have VERY weak weapons, I mean class5 at the tops, and a little less hull than the Large Train. A super-tanker CAN cost as much as a Battleship, and it is easy to destroy. If you look, they also have NO guns, so I think weak guns would make sense here. EDIT: If anyone has a good model..... Whenever you Took a misisons or Bribed someone you had to log out then back in so they have the same rep. i think they would be cool addons for Capships because then you can kill a fair few guys at a time. The only Drawback would be when facing another Player. Note to self do not post on forums after midnight :nono: Ermm, Ill try again. I was flying a Liberty Gunboat when I was repeatedly hit by Corsairs with disruption missiles. Being completely unable to enter cruise-mode, I finally decided to simply blast them out of the sky. My experiences with countermeasures come from flying the fighters from the original game. Rereading my post, I can see where the confusion comes from sorry Does it make sense now? And while were at it: why are the big ships not able to mount a countermeasure launcher? I must say that, if you make the turrets even weaker than those on the Trains, then you might just as well forget about them. The turrets on the Trains are, IMHO, completely useless against anything heavier than a medium fighter. I would make sense to me. A RH Bomber with codenames, salamanca turrets and sunslayer torpedos would be the best option for killing any cap-ship. Without a wing to help you that is. |
