Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Caelum - 11-10-2009 Quote:This is harder said than done, I'm not sure if this is a dedicated box or not, but if it's on a shared host and they DOS it, that will knock out more than one site and they will have one very VERY angry web host after them. Plus most web hosts' load balancers will filter out illegitimate requests that are trying to DOS a server. The search page intentionally bottlenecks traffic, so that would be impossible to degrade service with. I've never heard of an SQL server being overloaded, although I'm sure it could be done, from my understand they're built to handle like... the whole everything at once.I'm PMing ya a reply, since it's probably not good to discuss ways to down the forums in a place the guy just might read:P Either way, thanks for the answers folks. It is all based on where you live, what youve done, that countrys law, blah blah blah.... why can't we all follow one set of laws? Spam would die, DOS attacks would die, www peace :) True that man. Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Aoyagi - 11-10-2009 Blah blah blah, you suck Edit: Right, that got into my head. Nevermind. A good backup from the forums would be wise. There are some shiny pearls of wisdom around here. Heck, in the last half-hour i've wasted all my air laughing. ' Wrote:You know what I hate? Get a life, tard.Hold on a second, don't be so quick to throw caution to the wind. There is quite a bit of merit to waiting some time before relaunching the server, quite a bit of security needs to be put in place to prevent this from happening again. Try to keep a cool head, this is exactly the sort of stuff that "the hacker" wants to happen. Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Caelum - 11-10-2009 I'm with Zack on that one. Besides guys, we're all blowing this way out of proportion. It'll probably a few days, maybe a week or so of downtime, then life goes on (yes, the internet is my life, shush). Point is, no, Disco ain't dying:P Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Boss - 11-10-2009 Zack, your sig made me snort coffee up my nose. Also, listen to wise-startrackerpilot-man. Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - Kazinsal - 11-10-2009 Zack: Epic sig. On-topic: Holy ****, no wonder I can't connect... I think we should get a trace of where he's coming from and collectively DDoS his proxy servers. Or find his true location and get dusteh to drive to his house and punch him in the mouth:) I'd host the server but I don't have a box for serving and my internet is a changing thing... Dynamic IPs + wireless = hell. Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack - FreelancerFanatic - 11-10-2009 Better not do anything back. Just like in Discovery, 'he started it' is no excuse for doing anything illegal. It would be nice if we can report him to his own provider. |
