The whole damn BAF couldnt muster enough firepower to take out coin without it running out of supplies. Do you actually know how much firepower it takes to kill a fully supplied core 4 base? And when it is out of supplies oh look:

3 bombers a LF and a cruiser wrecked that besieging fleet consisting of 3 BSs, 3 dessies, a GB and some fighters.

Id say you just showed that specific rules ARE needed, precisely BECAUSE most of the situations ended with killing the base, for the same reasons as if most piracy encounters ended with killing the trader, surely?

They were killed, because, I kid you not, NOBODY came to defend them. The only times when a base was killed during an attack (When I was around, anyway) was the AI base in Kappa. And that is because the attackers pretty much gave up and let it die anyway.

Maybe I am wrong, maybe some specific rules are in fact needed, but what would you suggest?

A POB engagement notice, when a player must post an engagement notice on the forums, much like a bounty contract as to show their intentions to attack a base and give the owners ''sufficient time to reply''?

Like I said before, Id say basically treat them as players, all attacks have to be based on RP, so youd have to post the RP on the forums before attacking, (or with the base owners if they are present) but as ingame, as soon as you post that RP, you can attack, should only take a few mins.

But as with a player, ONLY if that attack makes sense inrp, apply the same rules to bases. So if the base is shooting everyone, anyone is free to attack it, as theyd be free to attack a player shooting them. If the Player is a pirate, hes free to attack any base not IFFd to his faction, as long as his forum RP is a piracy demand. If the player is a lawful hes free to attack the base if its breaking the laws, as long as he says so in the forum rp. ect.

Basically what Im saying is; treat player bases as PLAYER bases.

What about the defense? I understand it is easy to complain about people trying to tear down your base and it will not matter what ID/Ship combo they are using, someone from the defending group WILL say: "They are using OORP means to attack us, we have all right to treat it as an OORP attack and use ANY means to defend our base."

Case and point, let me find a SS. Last time a base we attacked in Zeta was then defended by: two freelancers, Zoners, three Order, two BHG and an OC Dread.

Thats why you post on the forums, if they call your attack oorp, you point to your forum post, which should say what faction your from, and it can prove wether or not its oorp.

Mmm, I do not see how that will work. People will not care about one pixel ship and will reengage over and over just to save their base and the hours of work put into it. In other words, while solving the engaging problem it will still not do anything about the defense.

And if by chance admins will chose to punish base owners by deleting or downgrading their base in the event if their defenders are overstepping server rules, then what stops people like me from joining the defense with the sole purpose of sacrificing one ship in order to get the whole group in trouble.

Point is, every rule has its loopholes and exploiting. The less rules the better. Handle problems ingame yourselves. My two cents.

If your just talking about re-engaging, theres already a rule for that, that people have been using for years, use that. Yes its hard to prove, but thats only tangetialy conected to POBs, if you think there should be a better way to stop re-engaging,make a thread about that.

I mean you could say "there should be no rules about engaging players, because they might re-engage oorp" with as much of a point. personally I think the re-engaging rule should be removed and we should have (price lowered) shiploss instead, because I agree, the less rules the better, but its not really relevant to POBs especially.

The Coin is a gigantic turd that makes the 49 hole all but unusable for most of my characters. Which is the goal, of course.
I'm Irish myself and I still hate the damn thing. It's done a fine job of injuring the Gran Canaria RP, as well as just being a pain in the arse to bypass in general. I wouldn't mind the Coin "just chillin" if it would go "chill" somewhere nicer, like Omicron Lost or 500k above the plane from where it is now.

Why dont you buy a license then? Its ridiculously cheap, 1 month for the price of 1 trade run!

VR and the SCRA were complaining to the Mollys about them ignoring their requests to pass the coin, and all the time the Mollys had already told them they could just buy a license!

I feel like I badly miss Dublin.
