I personally like the Armored Transport the best, but that's probably because it's like a freighter with transport turrets on it, and I've got a thing for little ships.

The armored transport is indeed a fine choice as well against snubs, but it fails against gunboats. Still a fantastic ship, especially for the price.
Oh yes, and also: Honorable mention for the Golem/ALG mover for being the most defensively oriented ship that still has a very high cargo capacity.
4700 cargo, and it has seven turrets with wonderful arcs, as well as more bots than any non-liner transport.
Nice and small profile, too.

It's a fantastic pirate transport, sure, but the best transport for self-defense? It's absolutely useless at self defense.

Okay, it's very compact and pretty agile for the amount of hull it has, so it can escape nicely.
But please enlighten me, how is a transport that has 1.5 rear-firing turrets good for self-defense?

By far my favorite is the Celestra, the CR small transport. Really nice look, small, has 6 guns, and is pretty agile.
EDIT: I know alot wouldn't buy it because of the armor, which is 55k. But overall its pretty nice. Best one, I would say Raba.
