I use Avira AntiVir, and Windows Defender
Windows Defender isn't very useful but Avira AntiVir is nice. Very light on the system.
And the new version of AVG sucks. It is a resource hog, and I have a Core 2 duo, 2GB ram, and a 7200rpm HDD.

Kaspersky is the way to go man. They're the ones who know the viruses best. Everyone else goes to to them to get their database of viruses updated. Plus, their program is the best, most efficient and intuitive commercial antivirus available.
Stay clear of Norton, McAfee, and AVG. McAfee just slows your computer down, but Norton will go into registry and probe into all kinds of other stuff and completely **** up your computer. And it costs a lot. AVG is decent for the price, but get something a bit more professional if you can.

Dude I have AVG on all my computers. the benifits out weigh the cons. And the only cons are the next version ain't coming out fast enough;)
Just checked: Total memory usage in total, 36,025KB out of the 3GB I have in my laptop.
Even looking at my computer would make your eyes bleed with it's awesome holyness.
Regardless, I won't state the specs because that would be a little too overkill. Still, the early versions of AVG that I had either locked up my PC or lagged the hell out of me on almost every game I played. Because of that I won't touch that garbage of a program ever again, and viruses still got through!!
Even if the new versions work better, the early ones left a really sour taste in my mouth, I'll stick with my current anti-virus, does the job with little memory usage.

No need for antivirus just use common sense and learn all the startup locations,once you know them you will know when something isn't supposed to be there.
But if you absolutely need one NOD32 or Kapersky are the best ones.

NOD32 and avira beats kapersky... had some time ago where i used trend micro, installed kepersky and found a few more, installed avira and had 3 suspicious files, installed NOD32 and it told me those suspicious files was virus... NOD32 and avira beats kapersky with 3 files:)
you can searth after the best antivirus 2008... think bit defender is number 1 at most of the different opinions each site have...

Kaspersky can annoy the heck out of you for ca. one week after installing it, but it's well worth it, in my opinion.

I use Tellus eProtect. Came with my internet subscription.
Works great does real time Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, Firewall and popup blocking. All in one app and take little resources.
It also updates the your virus database as awell as spyware database to ensure the best protection almost daily. Updates take less then 1 minute at computer startup.
