There are some instances that Ganking is legit and needed. There are other times when its a plain annoyance and its better to keep it small and respect the players already in a fight.
I think you should always ask if you may join. The [LN] do a good job at keeping things fair for instance.
Thats the thing. Its up to factions to remember to keep things fair and enjoyable. Needless to say sometimes a cop chase is really fun like when my {AFC}- faction gets chased by cops and its a challenge for us.

You can't do anything about ganking, because it has very shadowy limits, when it's gank, and when it's not.
When 3 low/ averenge snub pilots vs ace, it's may be even gank to first side.
When 4-5 low/averenge snub pilots vs ace, it's gank to second side.
When 3 snubs vs GB, it's gank to snubs.
When 4 snubs vs GB, it's gank to GB.
And things like that, so, to get situation, when both sides having same steigh (not NUMBERS) it's kinda rare.

Ingame, disco is THE most noob unfriendly comunity among mmos I have played. Do I use some different internet, or is it like we can *gasp* reduce* gasp* assholery in-game?
I had very good experiences starting out. I think Disco people are unfriendly to stupid people and i also think that is normal. People coming here thinking they are entitled to whatever and everyone should care for them are not welcome.
Can anyone think of any other existing problems in Discovery?
Also i wonder if it's possible to modify the level gain according to the time spent in game with that character. This way we could really know who the new guys are.

Ganking is no biggie in my opinion. I can't stand seeing a wing of 5 military players meeting a single pirate and some one on one duel breaks out resulting in the loss of one of the military. Why are they watching their wingmate die? Why be wingmates? Why isn't that dumbass pirate fleeing? It completely destroys the suspense of disbelief. Veteran abuse of new players as well as faction abuse of indies has long been a pet peeve of mine and insanely difficult to resolve no matter how much I've swung the hammer around. Certain amendments and deletions of Disco rules would need to be done in my opinion in order to shorten the gaps of resentment that's grown between the aforementioned groups.
