Yea, I got pirated by a Corsair and Zoner IFF'd characters and I was way confused. This makes the ID thing a much better idea now. But there are still going to be some abuses . . . say someone getting a pirate ID (official or freelancer) from a friend after already establishing a permanent IFF with another ID and then using that as a gimmick to be a lion in sheep's clothing. Eh, maybe that's not an abuse, maybe that's just tactics. But it's a dirty trick in my book.

Fixed for my taste.

About the actual thread, I dont think it was a good decision, bringing back the cold meal on the table again. The new rule offered wider range for roleplay and didnt hurt nobody, just bhg players for sure, who didnt want to roleplay before harvesting blue msgs.

Since there were a lot of querulous/hunters it was expected but I think its just reducing the quality of roleplay here.

God forbid people have to roleplay on a roleplay server ... The 1 change you guys made that I couldn't find anything to complain about was that and you backtracked on it ...

Well its not so much that ID's being oorp couldnt work, its that most players, especially pretty much all newer players, didnt and still don't understand how it was supposed to work. I honestly have been challenged about my IFF/ID combination almost every time I pirated someone over the last month. Rather than it being a good RP experience I often found myself just leaving shaking my head because it turned into a // fest of 'fix your ID' or 'you're using the wrong ID' or 'you can't do that you're a freelancer'. I found myself explaining the rules as much as rp'ing the experience. Its not just during attacks either. Ships see non matching IFFs and ID's and don't get the aim, and treat you as if you're breaking server rules. They don't realize that the combos are OK and that you can't really pull off oorp combos like (example, Lib rogue ID with LPI IFF, can't happen anyways).

So as I was sayin, make them inrp or remove them from sight so people wouldnt freak out over not understanding a combination or the rp intent behind it. Removing them causes even more problems though. I hate to say it but people just can't handle ID's being oorp, well new players, which seem to make up a large majority of players now. Its a complex system for newbs and they end up taking ID's at face value anyways. Now instead of explaining the rules we can get on with rp.

Each way has its potential advantages and drawbacks, I support trying it this way for a while at the very least. Like aerlem said, they may clean things up again, probably if this causes more trouble than its worth.

To this I say, that even with ID's inrp now, thats still how the game is played. Until now, once you get in scanning range, if a ship had a Zoner IFF and corsair ID, you'd treat him as a Zoner until he acted like a corair to you or someone around you (like demanding cargo/creds). Now, he can only appear as a Zoner until he get's close enough for you to scan his ship and read his ID. Now, that doesn't mean you are obligated to run away or attack him, but you'll now understand what he can do, and if he does those things, that its part of his character's background.

So if you get suckered in because a ship broadcasts a false IFF, you can verify a ships 'identity', but the drawback is you probably are too close to escape once you're reading the ID. That's pretty much the same anyways. Now you can call him a corsair instead of random pirate who never disclosed inrp why they are attacking you. Its not 'necessary' but now its an option.

Last time I checked, "roleplay on a roleplaying server" was a rule, not a polite request.
