Fairplay vs Roleplay - Jihadjoe - 09-22-2008 ' Wrote:Due to the Superior skills of the Corsairs, the outcasts ALWAYS lose :D:D:D:Dhehe jk jk You shall die to my guns. Seriously though, we were -badly- outnumbered there. Make everything as filmic as possible, give everyone a chance and make every combat moment as tense as it could be. Seriously, you'll get more of a chance to RP, as you won't be dodging quite so heavily, and you'll have more fun in fights. Just try it. Fairplay vs Roleplay - kingvaillant - 09-22-2008 I share the same opinion as you. ((Zapp))((Had to leave for Diner before clicking post XD)) but there is something a lot of people here don't understand. In RP Disco Server, the "Overwhelming Force" theory is EXTREMELY wrongfully interpreted. A General will NEVER EVER send all he got to take down an enemy, he has LIMITED SUPPLIES. He will surely send 4 fighters to take down only one, to make sure everyone comes back home safe (except the enemy) but he won't send all his army, move all his capital ships, anti-air tanks and everything just to take down such enemy. If he would do so, that would be the worst General I would have heard of. I have no problem to fight 10+ fighters in my VHF, i might die, yes... BUT AT LEAST I HAVE SOME CHANCES TO BRING AT LEAST ONE GUY DOWN But Having to fight something against which you do not have a SINGLE chance to beat (or nearly beat) is really wrong. Like a LF forced to fight a BS... I mean come on. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Orin - 09-22-2008 Quote:I would like you to change this to "some people" because MOST people on the server DO rp, and are good at it.Mmhm, there's a lot of good RP on Disco. Ever read a role-play on Gaia? Don't. On topic though: Sometimes a superior force is needed to make sense in RP, but sometimes there's nothing wrong with hanging back. Don't be so triggerhappy. Listen to this nifty little word. Reinforcement Additional personnel or equipment sent to support a military action. Often used in the plural. The US doesn't send every fighter squadron, infantry platoon, naval battle group... etc. etc. to waste an enemy. If they did, they would probably own pretty well, but it's a waste of money and resources. Balance. Fairplay vs Roleplay - MB52 - 09-22-2008 Fairplay but also RP... See when I'm in my capship, I only engage Destroyer and up size ships, unless I absolutely, I may be present at a fighter battle but likely will not open fire, untill either my allies SEVERELY need help or another enemy capships arrives. Fairplay vs Roleplay - bluntpencil2001 - 09-22-2008 Sometimes it's fun to be on the receiving end of ridiculous firepower. Fighting against the odds is something to write home about. Fairplay vs Roleplay - stewcool - 09-22-2008 Oh wait I'd like to add during one of my Role Play things. I was in NY doing what I do. Whatever I do ... Anywho there was this outcast which is like a prime target for me. Who was in a GB I had my ship Osiris. And 2 gunboat(Minions he called them) plus a fighter or somthing... Anywho he didnt want to engage cause he was definitely outnumbered. So I let my minions attack him. And he was a Good pilot make that great pilot he almost took em all out til I, who was just watchin, had to but in. I didnt want to lose my minions! So it was both RP and Fair til I came in. EDIT:: Btw kudos to whoever that pilot was Fairplay vs Roleplay - Dantrithor - 09-22-2008 right... i began writing this, and browser froze. Great.. ehem... as i was saying: Zapp, I'm mike edwards, and apologies if what happened in colorado annoyed you. I explained you why we both were there, and why we couldn't leave afterwards. And, roleplay ends where fairplay comes. It's good to use overwhelming odds when fighting opponents in planets like New berlin, new london, manhattan, crete, etc.. After all, it's supposed something less than a battlefleet wuold be unable to get to less than 30k of those planets, so we, players, have to "simulate it". And sometimes roleplay is disregarded for PVP. I have seen countless times capital ships (>gb's) attacking... light fighters. From a disuasory point of view, yes, you would do that a few times. From a realistic point of view, if something can circle around you 30 times without you scoring a hit, you shouldn't be in that fight. I agree Fairplay vs Roleplay - Eppy - 09-23-2008 Quote:I think overwhelming force is generally preferred... within reason. Taking enough to beat your enemy and then some is okay... just don't take the piss. /Signed. I was rarely in the habit of bringing five to one odds, but for gods sake, I shouldn't sacrifice a shot at victory for so-called 'fair play'. If I can win in-RP ought to do my best to do so. For those that offer duels instead, that's understandable-heck, it's often IRP for them. For those of us in large strategic situations, no mercy. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Boss - 09-23-2008 Fairplay. Why? I don't know about you, but after demolishing a bomber, you don't like it when another bomber, a cruiser, two gunboats, and two fighters jump you. (I was in a Sabre...Got the bomber and almost got a fighter) |
