' Wrote:I mean no rude intent when I say: I don't think you can manage a faction.

I suggest you make an indy pirate affiliated to an unlawful organization, such as the Corsairs or Outcasts, and pirate as you like. That way you can RP with them on occasion as well, if you so choose.

Flaming you would take me all morning, so I'm just going to go ahead and quote Orin's very neutral yet very exact statement. This is probably your best bet.

I dont think we should discourage a player from trying to take a more active rp position within the community. weve all made mistakes in the past, who knows he could actually turn out to have some good ideas.

i encourage you to give it a shot. try your best and keep revising til it works.

Can't blame the guy for trying, at least hes on the forums asking for help, instead of just doing whatever, whenever, however.

Alright, before this turns into an "HAHAH LOOK THE NOOBIE, LET'S THROW **** AT HIM"-fest, what the hell are you doing?

Not everyone is as creative or intelligent as you are. Cut him some slack...

At least the guy's trying his best, and asking on the forums. I can remember a time when most of you were at the same point, and didn't do that...

Let the first person who hasn't done something like this throw the first stone.

Don't make a faction because you want to be a part of something big. The research is a pain, and if it isn't vanilla you'll get no end of flak. You'll end up either getting flak for indy behavior or being used as flak against other related factions, neither of which is fun, and whenever one of your underlings does something resembling stupid you have to apologize profusely in the interests of maintaining good relations even before getting all the facts.

If you want to make a faction, do it because you have found/created a piece of FL lore that you are absolutely in love with. You know it inside and out, and it utterly fascinates you. You also have a group of like-minded individuals who care for the idea and the people. Topping it off, the climate is appropriate for the community, both at large and locally (resident leaders of nearby factions you will interact with, for instance), to accept your love of this lore with open arms. They want to help you flourish and bring RP to where there was no RP before, rather than cut you down to make room for the other stuff. With a bit of passion, friendship, luck, and 500 mil (plus the 300+ mil to actually startup the characters, even more if you desire capital ships), then you have the makings of a faction. If you try before then, you will end up with one massive headache, a fair share of lost funding, and quite possibly a few enemies you didn't need. I speak from multiple experiences and from conversations with others who had worse experiences. It is nothing to be taken lightly, and it doesn't get easier after you get that shiny green "approved" stamp.

But fear not, hope is not lost, the staging grounds for any faction start as a playing group. Work out your idea, find people who think it's cool, and start playing. Flesh out the details, establish your friends and enemies with more than just a line of text in a diplomacy chart, and meld with your intended identity set. If that goes well, you'll have most everything you need.

Huh. I seem to be in boundless muse mode today. If an admin/mod wants to throw this up in the faction creation requests forum alongside the other posts like it, feel free to do so, and let me know if I can help.

EDIT: What sn!per said.

HEY... i Have alot of creativity. I'm not used to the roleplaying of discovery though tbh XD. I play alot of.... FPS.
But yeah.... you caught me, I'm about the most impatient person you'll ever meet XD. As for the faction thing i posted, i denied it, on orin and tenabras advice. Thanks for the tips, I really like the corsair gunboat though.... and my outcast rep is red. Is there an outcast gunboat by any chance?

No. But you have the lane hacker gunship and the liberty rogue gunboat. They are allies of the outcasts and it allows the outcasts to use them. Especially the liberty rogue one since its sold at Belfast station which is considered a black market shipyard on the outcast side.

Trying to..... - stewcool - 10-02-2008

Also add that the LH gunboat looks cool

Trying to..... - Zygoeths - 10-05-2008

Ive got the roleplaying down PRETTY well, heres how i talk (quick preveiw) "Ye bi a' Libuty Neveh o'?" "Your a liberty navy no?"

Trying to..... - Tenacity - 10-05-2008

talking in an accent doesnt mean you RP well.

RP is about behaving as your character would, and interacting in a proper manner with other people based on your character's developed or perceived personality. RP is about playing like you -are- your character, not like you're controlling him from your computer.

Anyone can talk funny, hell most people here talk funny without even meaning to because they've got poor english. What you need to work on is consistency of behavior.
