RE: Making Factions More Desirable - The Savage - 11-21-2015

Official factions have something to say regarding the change in diplomacy, techcells or even some additional ship for a faction (if they lack it) - not to mention they have right to sanction characters or even entire factions (even if they bear same ID and IFF). These are things that unofficial factions cannot do.

However, I think people tend to exaggate, because official factions bear the great responsibility, both to the leaders and players - no matter, if that's roleplay, ooRP/iRP logistics or PVP abilities. Sometimes official factions can be hard to be in, because they require players to keep to ship restrictions (vide SCRA or 343).

RE: Making Factions More Desirable - Timmy - 11-21-2015

About ships and techsells, SRP is open for everyone. As for diplomacy, I don't think [KNF]s opinion about =LSF= and [LN] flying in Kusari have been considered for any diplomatic changes. As for the rest, I don't think that official factions are having fun, nor would they like to bother with their "rights". Plus not every player in the faction can do that. It's only a thing for a leader, not every single member.

Also, restrictions in factions are natural thing and are to be expected from any proper faction that doesn't want to turn into a mess. But when a player have alternative to be restricted or not only, there's really little chance that they will choose first option. And that is basically what the choise is for them at the moment.

@Bulldog. Indeed, I've often found that subtle changes are usually effective, after all we don't want to detract from playing as indepedent but rather give people incentives to form or join factions and aim for officialdom.

@FluffReborn It's that responsibility and self-regulating behaviour that I believe make official factions a cornerstone of Disco and help create a sense of community within the game, but as Timmy said the bonuses given to those factions are only used by the leadership and offer little to the members.

Keep genuine constructive requests coming, in this thread, Factions.

Factions, perks, zoi, id's etc. are all under discussion and have been for a while within the admin team.

This is the last bastion of FL, a game I presume you all love and would like to keep playing.

Let us try and constructively move forward, any thing unproductive (off topic, derailing, just repeating already posted material etc.) posted for the sake of it will be hidden without further warning.

What if we just had factions and indies with a different RP, "perk" and storyline input system?

RE: Making Factions More Desirable - Kauket - 11-21-2015

I was hoping that factions would have a special faction power or something along the lines. But too bad it's hard to make varience in Discovery, as everything is limited and restricted by engine, and that people are super insane with making everything "balanced"

Can you expand on this a bit?

This is exactly what we have now. Derp.

Not quite, we have official and unofficial factions and indies at present.

And only official factions get perks or consulted over story changes so I don't see how the other two are at all relevant.
