RE: Mining System - Jack_Henderson - 04-11-2016 No. It is bad at the moment.
I could go on, I helped Karst (who is the numbers' guy) to check on fields and the findings sometime make you laugh, and often cry. It's hopeless, though, because the only person who Vipex will listen less to than me, is Karst. Make @Karst the mining dev. He and jammi have this covered. ~ Jack RE: Mining System - Kaze - 04-11-2016 (04-11-2016, 09:43 PM)Venkman Wrote:(04-11-2016, 09:42 PM)Lythrilux Wrote: Replace the current mining dev, @"LordVipex", with @Karst. RE: Mining System - Cursetantine - 04-11-2016 The mining system definitely needs some huge alterations, variety of ore prices are unbalanced, PoBs in mining fields, factions without sell points, non-efficient mining fields... the list goes on. And it's been like that for a notable time. Time to change maybe? RE: Mining System - Omi - 04-11-2016 Though I couldn't comment on it at the time, I don't remember this thread ever meeting with a valid, well-reasoned response to all the criticism contained within from our resident mining dev. In my personal opinion, that's indicative of one (or both) of two danger signs: either @"LordVipex" doesn't feel like those outraged by the changes therein are worth his time to bother justifying his changes to, or he simply doesn't have anything worth the time it takes to type to back up his changes. I'm no expert when it comes to mining, but I trust the judgement of people who mine extensively (such as @Jack_Henderson, @Karst and several others) when they make complaint after complaint, repeatedly stating their opinion that the changes introduced are massively flawed and require urgent and extensive reworking and/or further attention to bring them back in line. Something like this slipping through the net is, frankly, inexcusable, and shows both an utter lack of quality control related to the update and a lackadaisical, lazy approach towards fixing this and any other outstanding issues. Even I have noticed problems with mining from my own limited Discovery worldview - the inexplicable disappearance of Gold Ore from the GMS ID (to the best of my knowledge) being the main one I would highlight. I can only imagine the contents of whatever mega dossier @Karst is compiling might have. Frankly, I expect it to be quite damning. RE: Mining System - Tabris - 04-11-2016 Indeed. The Coalition used to have Ore Sellpoints in 52. However the last update to the Mining made them cease to exist. Mining is miserable to do right now and is a bit messy. It needs to be fixed soon or else folks will eventually stop playing mining factions. RE: Mining System - Reid - 04-11-2016 Basically what Henderson said, make @Karst the mining dev because him and Henderson are probably the two most qualified people for the job RE: Mining System - Corile - 04-12-2016 @Karst RE: Mining System - Impyness - 04-12-2016 If you guys could give examples of what you dislike / like about the current system instead of just @karsting that'd probably be more effective. @Karst Please remember to also vote RE: Mining System - SnakThree - 04-12-2016 Main problem with mining system is dev that does not understand how mining system works in larger scope. RE: Mining System - sindroms - 04-12-2016 My biggest beef with the mining system is the approach itself. I remember back in 85 when ore still dropped, it meant that you could make huge ore clouds with small ships and PM random people ingame to try and sell your wares - it would also allow pirates to come to your pile of 50k ore floating around and point their CDs at it - gief monies. It was fun. It was dynamic. My wholehearted suggestion would be to make ore droppable again, but instead increase the drops per rock, but decrease the chance significantly. This would solve the problem with server load. Meaning you can get one drop of , say, 1k ore after shooting Y rocks. That and remove the ability to mine for your own transport. Since returning to the old mining system would seem like a step back, please at least make it so that solo mining is impossible. That you MUST interact with players in order to get the best profit. That also means to make ore unplacable on POBs. This, however, might be too radical of a change and the later part could cause huge problems with people who made POBs just to store ore. |
