That's one of their purposes and you can see that in FL story-line. They're seen as escorts of transports all over the universe. Police use them because they need to be fast and travel light in order to catch bigger and slower ships. The whole LF class makes a lot of sense. They only need more energy to the power core right now and a more variety of weapons.
