I'm glad that you won't be using the traditional nomspeak mess because it's just a pain.
With my nomad I've been going the way of not talking at all and simply describing what it's doing and what it's thinking and that works well enough.
I'll be happy if you decide to go a similar route.

That's actually a nice way to do it too.

i like the idea of just using descriptions and not talking at all

but if you have to talk, use english

any attempt at making communication "cool" and "interesting" just leads to be it being needlessly complicated and useless

So... never heard of this faction until 3 of you decided to attack my Geb... Bad move... i was confused by your RP as it is not conventional Nomadic Role play. Nevertheless it was interesting...

As per the fight... i hope there is no hard feelings, its not wise to attack a Geb and expecting to Live... Till next time.

Completely getting rid of nomspeak is uh... maybe not that much of a good idea. It should really be a combination of everything you can do. Be it descriptions as above, simpler nomspeak for interactions and visions if going for a deeper roleplay.

I'm all for getting rid of the current nomspeak mind you. It's a relic from an era where people made this thing mandatory but didn't realize it takes ages to write a sentence and it pisses off both the writer and the listener (most of the time because the end result is garbo). The nomads shouldn't lose their alien-ish ways of interacting with others, but the current overcomplicated nomspeak is far from being a determining factor IMO.

Definitely an interesting and creative approach, but I'll be the one to throw out the question. Is there really need for yet another Nomad based faction? We have what, 6 counting the Vagrants? Why not just work with the people in K'Hara to shake the faction up and make it more interesting?

RE: The Nomad Vagrants — Information and Feedback - Omi - 10-17-2016

The tag is awful, although the name is passable. Scrapping Nomspeak entirely is, IMO, a terrible idea, as is the furthering of what I see as an ongoing general trend towards trying to make the Nomads more fuzzy, understandable, and - dare I say it - downright human, as opposed to keeping them as a primarily antagonistic, mysterious, and outright alien force to counterbalance all the rather twee 'friendly' RP that has already been creeping along inside K'Hara and elsewhere.

There is a balance to be struck between the 'ideal' scenario of Nomads being silent killers who shoot everything on sight, especially considering how poorly this translates to actual gameplay, but I would even rather see a "Saturday morning cartoon villain" take on the Nomads than this sort of strange approach towards building an alien faction almost as if it were some sort of corporation. I can't really get my head around the style of writing used in this thread, even, to use it as an example. Goals like these are better left as implied or at best very vague, in my opinion, not outright stated in a strange blend of clinical and borderline edgy list of bulletpoints that looks like some sort of corporate venture.

I agree that K'Hara has long since hit rock bottom with regards its own quality and how they represent the NPC Nomad faction, but pretty much the only positive point I can see about this proposal is that it intends to challenge K'Hara for that spot of Nomad representatives. The more I look at the details, though, the more I see an even more 'teenage fanfiction'-ish sort of take on the whole shebang that leaves me rolling my eyes.

It seems that Sombra's response is stirring up quite the discussion.

What we meant by saying "speaking in English" is comprehensible English. We will still be using the "nomspeak" method, but without destroying sentences and making them into puzzles you have to go through to continue an interaction. We will also be getting rid of the unnecessary spam of "" == ... ... -- in our sentences.

An example of what is seen in usual Nomad interactions:
***... "Yours" ... -intrude- Our 'Domain' ...***

How we would end up passing the sentence:
("It intrudes on our Domain!")

Of course, that's just an example and we will likely have variation as we are exploring the possibilities currently. We are experimenting with what method works best, so please bear with us as we learn and improve.

Thank you for the feedback so far, everyone!

Edit: I forgot to mention. Optimally, we would like to place an emphasis on actions, changes in appearance, using Nomad powers instead of relying completely on speaking. Instead of throwing around a generic message like "we angry, you meet void now", we'd rather opt for just describing as the Nomad lights up, arches its "wings", gets ready for combat and et cetera.

Hey guys, just a thought - perhaps you may want to disregard the "Discovery Cardamine Connection" that was simply created by (not bad) people with Outcasts as their main faction and wanted to have Nomads as a side project (both their factions allied or neutral to each other). Thus, digging deeply enough, you may realize that Discovery's Cardamine flavor came entirely out of a few people's self-convenience and has no ground in the original Freelancer lore. Sure Sci-Fi is what it is, and you could keep it, but the important advice is this:

Do not chain your faction to the past. Take the long route and learn more than everyone else learned. Do it right when it's your turn. Be original and creative!

Not that anything you wrote called for advice, but I think it will serve you well. Best of luck.

Have fun!

Now this encounter in Omicron Lost was pleasant.
Saw different possibilities of nomspeak and I think they all could be used further. Makes the whole Nomad RP feel a little bit personalized.

Looking already forward to the next encounter, next time I might be in a snub than and don't have to hold back with shooting you though :p
