RE: Moving Disco away from Skype - Reid - 11-03-2016

People, especially me, don't like change. Been using skype for years and I'm too stubborn to change that. I have Discord but cbf to use it

Quote: I'd use the Windows vs Linux comparison to compare things like Skype to IRC clients and Discord
I mean yeah, on one hand you have the most user friendly and easy to use system which takes about an hour to learn, get up to speed and use. On the other you have Windows.
Also ftfy.

This doesn't work, because people are too lazy to actually move their arse and do something on their own. You actually need an organised group to do something.

I'm in much the same situation as @Stygian. I didn't click any link or do anything out of the ordinary lately, and I still wound up spamming my entire contacts list with that bloody Baidu virus.

Discord is so simple to use and set up and isn't a buggy, shoddily supported piece of ass - all these people whinging about it for any other reason than "I don't like change" are either stupid or being deliberately obtuse about their real reason. I can at least respect @Reid for being honest, because I felt the same way up until I started using Discord more for other games recently.

Discord isn't that great imo. UI is bad and doesn't follow normal windows standards and the 2-step verification system is completely broken.

Same thing for me, until I joined a couple discord servers yesterday and I've been actively talking in those for the past couple hours.

You won't like it until you try it. Effectively.

Amen to that

I tried it, and didnt like it, simple as that.
Aswell as all my good friends stick to skype.
Not going to even bother with Discord unless the need arises at such a scale that I am forced to change.

We're already switching some chats. I was against it at first too. It's not so bad.

Both Skype and Discord are easy targets for hackers if you do not secure your ports and only open the ports you are using and close them once done.
Any software that use a known port will be an easy target for hackers and even if not known, it will be dangerous too because hackers scan for open ports
All you need is a good premium anti-spywares, malwares and anti-virus
It would be great if you learn how to professionally use a firewall so you can open/block ports when needed/not needed.

Good luck
