That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - looqas - 02-05-2009 /setmsg is good for buying more time to stall your opponent coming at you guns blazing. Sometimes it works on those who are willing to RP. So I have a line saying something like "What's the hurry to get hurt? I ain't going anywhere." That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - Malexa - 02-05-2009 Cool are the guys with whom you RP 5 minutes, wthout getting a response and finaly they try to shieldbust / SNAC you when your still typing your *Insert House RP here*. That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - Blighter - 02-05-2009 No clue where it originated, I got it from Mule in a Skypechat once. But what is basically said with that is: "Shut up and die." Which is just another way of saying: "ENAGAGING!11onE" So I don't know. Personally I deliver RP here and there, if the other side isn't interested in playing along it's wham bam thank you ma'am time. I don't really mind if there isn't any or much talk done at all either. Just want to add that the prior-to-engagement RP one does is dependant on the characters. I've got a guy who will try to bed every woman in space he meets, especially if she's hostile, so he talks a lot prior to action. Then I've got a short-tempered Corsair who just blows people up and throws lines out of 300 into the game. ("CORSAAAIRS! PUMP UP THE VOLUME AND GET WITH THE FUNK, FOR TONIGHT! WE DANCE! ON MALTAAA!") My navylass is one of the cold-blooded professional types, unless if she's drunk or tripping, so she'll never talk much. Just saying that there is those "silent and deadly" types out there too, and it might not match everyone's characters to talk with the enemy for a few minutes prior to combat. My two cents. That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - swift - 02-05-2009 My Xeno feels the hurt, Malexa.:PIt ain't a problem to kill almost anyone in my eagle, but the fact that I type while fighting 3 avengers makes me defeat myself. That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - Malexa - 02-05-2009 *laughs* yeah if im in fight with the Rheinland criminals it works most the time. We fight in a huge furball and we sometimes still throw out the RP in this mess. *giggles* But if you try that on gunboats that are not Harvester tagged, you will get blown away during the RP in the fight and get afterwards a ::haha: That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - Dab - 02-05-2009 The proper response when asked the question; "What do you say before engaging an enemy?" Is "I won't know until I'm there." Your engagement notice should never be a pre-arranged one, except in certain circumstances. Such as LN Defending the gate to Alaska. A preset could be "'Name', you have violated restricted space, leave immediately." However, in most situations, your engagement notice should be based on what is going on and where you are, as well as who your enemy is. So I say, you should never know what you're going to say until you say it. That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - Blighter - 02-05-2009 Point there. Being too lazy to use /setmsg is awesome. That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - tfmachad - 02-05-2009 ' Wrote:"Tally ho good sir, good morrow for I am here to assault thee in a battle to the death. Most likely you'll get a 'lolwut' as an answer to that or it'll take so much time for you to type it your target will, (a) get out of range, (b) kill you while you type or shoot you so you'll have to evade and start over, © say, "booring, let's fight!", (d) have been logged out for some 30 seconds already. Try and escalate RP depending on how the other party deals with what you 'throw' at them (I'd do an example RP fluxogram but I'm too lazy to). If you don't know your counterpart to be an RPer that will satisfy your conversational needs, start simple: For example, when I play military: "Halt, <insertnamehere>!" (Very fast and pretty straightforward. If the guy stops or answers back somehow, it's a good sign. Then you can proceed...), "You have been caught in the act of piracy which is illegal in this territory and will be charged accordingly. Surrender your vessel and prepare to be boarded." (...or...) "He's not stopping. Pilots, you have weapon's free. Take the target down." (Everything else is a bonus, but depends on mutual willingness to proceed). Do your part and, if everything fails, find other playing partners. That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - Jimothy - 02-05-2009 Well, looking at it in terms or RP, lets take an example: Outcast meets Corsair (Doesn't matter where for this) Theese two factions are at war. They need no long winded story to engage, THEY ARE AT WAR! And as for 'Please leave or die' well, they would not be polite to each other, THEY ARE AT WAR! An engagement warning is a sort-of sensible idea though, it warns people they're coming under attack so they can defend themselves, incase they do not notice. Although this in itself, I think is slightly OORP, as the majority of people would not want to miss out on any chance to get an advantage over an opponent, so would not warn them they are engaging. (Only exception is pilots with a large amount of honour, like the Kusarians) That's it, everybody's 'Engaging' - tfmachad - 02-05-2009 ' Wrote:Well, looking at it in terms or RP, lets take an exampleI'm not so sure about that, to be honest. I remember seeing a rumor or an NPC in some base speaking of OCs and 'sairs sitting on the same table and getting wasted together. These people are at war for so long that I'd expect some to have overcome the irrationalities and propaganda of war. Still, even if you disregard the possibility that they wouldn't necessarily jump at each other's throat. Putting some perspective to the fight like having one accusing the other of murdering their dog's parents with an overdose of bad Cardamine wouldn't be so bad. Like, "Alright, we're at war, but I have a VERY good reason to kill you." |
