RE: NP~ The Nonsense Project: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - Kazinsal - 05-27-2018 I believe the Nonsense Project name comes from the Nonsense Factory, which is the Rogues' main shipyard and one of the many references to the late Iain M. Banks' series of lighthearted science fiction novels The Culture. RE: NP~ The Nonsense Project: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - sindroms - 05-27-2018 Kaz would be correct. RE: NP~ The Nonsense Project: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - Thyrzul - 05-27-2018 (05-26-2018, 11:41 PM)The Nonsense Product Wrote: The only thing you are currently doing is going into overdrive and doing guesswork as to what potentially can happen and that is a silly thing to do, especially when you have had no interactions with the group in the first place. If you'd be a man of science you would know and understand that educated guesswork is never silly, quite the opposite. Taeni is right in that even if it holds the possibility of even an alliance, unpredictable chaotic behavior will more likely end up in hostilities than not. Why? Because that's how human nature works, because people inherently seek safety, predictability and will aim for the removal of anything threatening that.
Interactions aren't needed for predictions like that, you shared well enough information in the OP already. If you do not like predictions like these, share less next time. But calling the guesswork, which is a direct result of what you wrote about your rogue faction, more or less an interpretation of it, silly is just... ignorant. RE: NP~ The Nonsense Project: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - The Nonsense Product - 05-27-2018 Well, here's the overall situation for now. The issues and concerns that have been raised so far are not being ignored. It is just that nothing really can be done about it as it is not a situation we are facing right of this moment. If it becomes an issue, it will be dealt with. Players can be talked to and detagged if needed. The faction, as any other group, has no intention to self-destruct. RE: NP~ The Nonsense Product: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - The Nonsense Product - 05-27-2018 First post updated, fixed a few grammar mistakes while ignoring others. Title also fixed, has the right name now. Roster added. RE: NP~ The Nonsense Product: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - Karlotta - 05-27-2018 There are some sentences about Rogues at the beginning of the write-up that I agree with, but the rest of it just seems to contradict them. The name is bad because it suggests that it's yet another faction that one can expect gagameme rp from. The fact that it's an import doesn't really make it any better. I don't know how people who read the novels that this is inspired from will see the faction because I haven't read them, but that's how it comes across to me, as someone who hasn't read them. RE: NP~ The Nonsense Product: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - sindroms - 05-27-2018 Karlotta, the name of the shipyard is literally The Nonsense Factory. It is in Cassini. The part about the Culture is the ship naming scheme usually used by literally every single rogue faction ever . You can find the list here. I am sure you will find a lot of familiar sounding names. Because that is where the source of Rogue names has been since 2009. If the name is not directly taken from this list, the name follows the ''style'' of that list. Usually as a contradicting or ironic statement. Naming your ship Batman is an import. Naming your ship the Cargo Cult, the Little Rascal or the Dramatic Exit - is not. RE: NP~ The Nonsense Product: The Merry Company of Jolly Degenerates (info/feedback) - Kalhmera - 05-27-2018 Hey Spazzy, good luck in your faction man. I know you can do it and make it official. We need a Rouge faction. Since the names "Nonsense Factory", "Cargo Cult", "Little Rascal", and "Dramatic Exit" all appear in the novels of "The Culture" according to the link you provided, how are they not imports? Just because they've been used in disco since 2009? Don't get me wrong... a little importing for inspiration here and there is nothing bad in my opinion (unlike other people who have been complaining about the Colonial Remnants). I just don't see how the name being from "The Culture" is as a valid counter-argument against the name being immersion-breaking. That would be like saying "Using the name Batman isn't immersion breaking nor an import because there was The Joker in 2010".
