That should be the point. Doing that run should offer a very high probability of dieing to NPCs or players. Right now its too easy. I see battleships being bought left and right. Thats not they way it should be. It should take at least a week of trading to buy a battleship. I still think trading has been made WAY too easy. Re: Possible Player Wipe - romer - 09-15-2006 If it fixes the lag, I'm all for the player wipe. Something has got to be done about the lag. Speaking of which, has anyone else experienced random ship explosions? Is that yet another side effect of lag? One minute your cruising along minding your own business, noone around or shooting at you, then BOOM!!! I dont know much about moding here, but since its not just the trains, wolf said thay are the worse, but any pre 4.80 cap ship causes lag. wouldnt that mean atleast part of the problem is coming from something else that was changed? where there any changes made to how the bigger ships fly or how the enviroment of the game reacts to the capital ships? Also with all the other servers running this mod now, it might be a good idea before even simutlating a whipe to check with admins of some of the new servers and see if they are having the lagg issues too. If they are then it would be a pretty safe assumption they a player whipe here wont solve the problem since none of their players will have anything that came from previous patches. Re: Possible Player Wipe - DarkOddity - 09-15-2006 It's possible it has something to do with the large amounts of unknown items in everyones hold (as mentioned in this thread already before) which I personally believe is most likely capital ship engines and powersupplies, made invisible so you can't stick them on different ships. just a thought tho Re: Possible Player Wipe - Alpha 429 - 09-16-2006 romer,Sep 15 2006, 11:02 PM Wrote:If it fixes the lag, I'm all for the player wipe. I dont remember if there was lag because it was quite a while ago. Sorry Teaboy, but it looks like it *WILL* happen when 4.81 rolls out. We'll start from scratch on 4.81 and see what the server performance looks like when we all mass in the same system or whatever. From everything I can piece together, it's got something to do with our upgrade paths. We've done *ZERO* player whipes since i took over control of the server. None. absolutely NONE. I have five people on my contact list (MSN) that have been running 4.80 with ZERO problems, and they never upgraded. However, one of them did an upgrade and experiences the *SAME* problems as we are having, so the problem isn't server related or specific to us. It's gotta do with the mod and what we changed. Several high-profile servers all say that when you do major changes, like a x.x0 release, do a player whipe to ensure server stability. We'll do the stimulated one during beta testing. If server load works out during the 2 weeks of beta test, we'll leave it as-is. if there's no change, we'll restore the old databases. Re: Possible Player Wipe - General Nakazawa - 09-16-2006 ok, i cold care less about the player wipe thing but about the trains, i say remove the shiels. heck i wold even say remove the shields from all the cap ships. if the NPCs cant have them then why shold we? it wold put in some verry interesting game play and realy spice things up a bit. I have been trying out flying with out shields on some of my large ships like my new LHBS-AARON and it is realy prety fun. oh and just to clarify why i cold care less about the wipe, i resintly had a personal wipe and its not that bad coming back from it, and befor i new about the server operator i ran a sever and built up a char with this mod from skratch. now this was also back in version 4.78 but its not that hard Re: Possible Player Wipe - Admiral Yamato - 09-16-2006 ^ I agree 100% with Nakazawa. The only thing that irks me is the high cost of repairs to large ships. Re: Possible Player Wipe - onca - 09-16-2006 Player Wipe?????!!!!!! O dude, and I just spent all that time building up a heap of chars........ O well if it fixes that annoying lag. As for nerfing transports and making money runs harder.... think about it. It'll make everyone much poorer. No argument from me there.... but think about how hard it'll be to buy those cap ships, fantastic weapons and faction tags. That'll mean *ALOT* more missions, and time, to build up cash. It will vitually guarentee every char will be aligned, ie. not neutral, if you have to raise money primarily by missions rather than trading. As long as everyone's cool with that. o. |
