RE: Rebel Galaxy Outlaw - Narcotic - 01-12-2020 Finally picked the game up for 8,74€ in the EGS winter sale and found some time to play a good 20 hours. And I have to say that it already fulfilled my expectations (from 2018) with it being a Freelancer 2 (story- and gameplay wise). I almost feel bad for getting that it that cheap, but I wouldn't have found time to play it before Christmas anyways. Already expected it to be the quality of the first Rebel Galaxy, but it's so good. Decided to play it with Controller, as the developer stated that's the input device it was developed for. Plays great. I was able to do strafing and engine kill, however it's not as mandatory as in Freelancer, since it indeed plays rather arcade-y. I like the choice of cockpit and 3rd person ship view. The quick travel option does really make the world feel much smaller, and I try to not always use it and do sublight speed instead. Has the advantage of finding new locations by stopping more often when I see an undiscovered asteroid belt or nebula with possible loot or mining opportunities. Story and protagonist are fine. Not the best, but interesting enough to keep one going. What I didn't like so far; making money is far too easy and quick. I did barely did any trading or missions, since I discovered that mining was pretty overpowered before I even bought a jump drive to leave the first system. And since one could buy most end-game gear already on the first station it felt like there wasn't much new to work for equipment-wise. There's only drop-only weapons from pirate lords that one can work towards. Next, there's far too few flyable ships in my opinion. Only 5 with 4 extra variations of the 5. And if one wants to use the best gear upgrades, there's only 2 ship designs to choose. In general, I don't like the very limited ship customuation options. The ship editor to paint your spaceship is amazing though. I'm really looking forward to upcoming DLCs and mods though. I don't expect there to be any multiplayer though. |
