I don't particularly see how that's relevant, not that it explains why my suggestion is a fallacy anyway. The solution could be something as simple as 250 million refundable upon looking at the options in the poll.

I admit it was maybe a little off-handed, but it essentially implied my answer to the question you posted. Logically, if there are two extremes, in this case the two options in the poll, the logical answer is not in the middle purely by merit of there being an exact middle ground. That is the answer to the quoted question. This type of argument is called an argument to moderation.

As to the question why the answer couldn't look like you described, it is perfectly valid to do it like you said. Just as it is logically valid to pick option A or B. Logically, there is no compelling reason, ergo it comes down to preference. Durandal and/or those who voted preferred this. You might not, but the argument you presented does not stand.
