Too bad they never gave Star Trek Renegades a fair chance, until Picard that was the most Star Trek thing done since Nemesis, should have been cannon. Icheb, Tuvok, the Doc, even Chekov was in it!

RE: Star Trek: Picard - Sombs - 02-23-2020

I actually enjoyed this episode. Felt a bit like one of the TNG holodeck episodes, although there were some stupid things (like Picard's "disguise") or Seven's rambo moment in the end. Things are finally starting to get some pace. I'm slightly surprised they actually went for the Picard's Eleven thing I foreshadowed in my previous post but it was not too bad. Although a bit artificial. I guess the Freecloud stuff would have needed a bit more time and world-building to impress a bit more.

RE: Star Trek: Picard - Dark_Knight - 03-06-2020

The last two episodes have felt the most like TNG Picard for awhile.

Although:

Probably noticed I haven't posted here since I blew up a bit over Ep5 haha (although I see you guys have kept things going on without me thankfully haha). I have kept watching the show though but was less invested in it to continue posting my episode round ups. I said after ep 5 that they'd really need some good eps to undo the damage that did, so...

Here's my thoughts on eps 6-9..

Hull chassis' are about as good as they'll get by then, as with the Sovereign, they only needed to be upgraded. I guess I'll have to finally watch the whole thing, I spoiled a bit on myself and watched that fleet standoff scene.

But sadly Data (I shouldnt say this, its not official cannon so this what I've put together) and the rest that died are all off to the next part of their journey. But for some, before they go to their next life, they are drafted to fight in the time wars. How? Remember a little old thing called...Genesis? I wonder what they can do with that by the 31st century? Or why they had it in the 2280's but took another hundred years for replicators and holodecks. Well, it all has to be managed from the end. You could say, thats where it 'all' starts.

Now I know they set it up so Data could be reborn like Spock was, but its true that the actors can't stay the same forever. At the same time, Data could be restored, made human and grow into an old man for his next life. So does that mean there be a connection then with Dr. Soong? Or why some people seem to reincarnate as other characters in the timeline?

There are several hidden stories within Star Trek, sometimes characters are there but you never see them, or hear about them but you always see or feel the impact. Like Chef on Enterprise. Odds are Troi suggested Riker do the holodeck scenario (Enterprise's last episode) of Enterprise as their Chef was due to her subconscious awareness of his other lives, where some go to assignments in the time war. Well if you watch all of the series' you also hear a lot about 'Starfleet Intelligence'. Starfleet Intelligence has done this or that, and now we can move along the main plot. Well there's a hidden story to another crew there that ties into all of the generations. There actually are easter eggs in the show regarding all of this.

For instance, in the Voyager Conspiracy, Seven discovers sensor data of a tractor beam locked on to the Tetryon reactor of the Caretaker's Array as it was being blown up. She theorized that it was part of a Starfleet plot to get the technology, and use Voyager to establish a pre-Federation presence in the Delta quadrant. What if I told you, by the end of that episode, although Seven dropped the paranoia, they never did explain what they saw at the array that time (because it was true). Or why you never see the Captain's Yacht in service (same for the Enterprise-D). Lets just say when time is being managed by the Temporal Authorities, you can never let a good accident go to waste. In retrospect, the Federation is coming to all quadrants eventually, why not use Voyager to our advantage in the past?

So fast forward to the destruction of Romulus. I'm not surprised the Tal Shi'ar bounced back. Its been like 35 years since the attack on the Dominion. If anyone would survive the collapse of the Romulan Empire, it would be them. They werent decimated like the Obsydian Order. I pictured Romulan space being ruled by smaller factions for a while. Eventually there's only one way for it all to go, and thats Federation membership. The entire Alpha Quadrant will be UFP, and after Hyperspace/slipstream is released/discovered, the rest of the galaxy becomes as easily reachable as the Alpha quadrant has been under Warp. Then the galaxy gets smaller, and the Dominion, the Delta Quadrant races, they'll be back on the viewscreen. The Federation eventually becomes a Galactic Federation. You could say Star Trek of the future gets even faster FTL wise and involves the whole galaxy.

Overall, I liked the season.

I sqee'd a nostalgic geekgasm when I saw Data playing poker w/ Picard, but ultimately finished the episode with a "Yeah, It's good enough to keep goin' to the next episode or few."

Over the rest of the season, I found many things to latch my trekkie onto, but ultimately, as the credits rolled on the finale, I was forced to sigh a quiet "Meh."

It wasn't a deal-breaker though, 'cause as much as I grew to 'effin love TNG, that 1st season sucked like an open wound...so, I know these days to just be patient.

It was one of those times I had to remind myself to "be careful what you wish for" because I ultimately got exactly what I wished for: A true sequel in the Prime Universe.

For the record, I've never been a slave to Roddenberry's Bible & have always pined for a more cinematic & serialized Trek, so, in spite of all it's flaws, I'm a Disco fan. (no pun intended)...& to a lesser extent, Picard as well

For example, I think "The Orville" is cute & I believe it earned a place in the sideroom trekdom, but, ultimately, I consider it little more than derivative nostalgia.

Bottom line here is, now that Star Trek is giving me what I always wanted, I simply have to live with it.

...& I'm cool w/ that.

RE: Star Trek: Picard - Blake00 - 07-05-2020

I thought Discovery season 1 was okay but there were many things that annoyed me. Season 2 was a huge improvement for me however that was mainly due to the additional cast members playing Pike, Spock and Number One on the enterprise, there was still some silly stuff (lazy writing plot hole things as usual) that annoyed me though. Season 3 loses those great additions so I fear it'll disappoint me again lol. My love of the Disco season 2 Enterprise content of course also leaves me super excited for Star Trek Strange New Worlds (aka the Star Trek Pike show fans demanded heh) as they've said it will be a more traditional episodic Star Trek adventure show on the Enterprise! So hopefully they can't screw that up too much... although there's some rumour (possibly BS) out there that it's also going to have a young bisexual Kirk running about in the show so read into that what you will lol!!

Back to good old Picard.. I've decided I'm not going to call it that anymore now. To me this show shall now be known as 'Patrick Stewart Goes To Space' (PSGTS for short) as there really isn't much Star Trek or Picard in it lol!!! I've been waiting for the 'Critical Drinker' to review PSGTS as I've become an fan of his after seeing his Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker reviews on those cluster****s. Sure enough in the video below you can see he hates it and he talks about Picard himself being rather useless just like I talked about in my episode reviews earlier in this thread. Yes I know hating on stuff is kind of his gimmick haha but he makes good points that match a lot of my previously posted thoughts.

This is Patrick Stewart Goes To Space!

And this is Star Trek Picard baby!!
