Of course. But the way I described, it'll fire regardless of where it's pointing, and *usually* the missile will turn toward where it's supposed to go in flight.
Sometimes the target is going to be out of the missile's cone of detection, though. So if you blindly mash the button you'll have a lot of missiles leaving straight lines of failure.
