RE: Deleting systems poll - Chronicron - 03-27-2023

y'all acting like posting in threads like this one will change anything

it's been apparent for years and years now that devs don't really care about what you all have to say, regardless of what they might be saying on public to keep their image "clean". if systems are getting deleted - they're getting deleted, and you lot can't do anything about it.

you all thought that attica was a single case of incompetent development? lmao wishful thinking, it was an example of how things will be handled from there on

RE: Deleting systems poll - RedEclipse - 03-27-2023

The policy of devs whereas less systems is more player interactions I fail to understand. For me it is quite obvious, the less systems disco got, the less attraction to play the mod for perspective no matter vet or new player. And yeah, it's quite strange to rework systems which were most populated before the patch and after it's dead in comparison, like Zeta.

Disco gets Markam'd again.
I was expecting the patch with Delta rework with high hopes but you just cannot let us have any nice things without taking double the volume back.
I'll just continue sleeping until another batch of amusing or depressing news from here.

Gallia as a singular system since they didn't discover FTL as they don't have Valhalla 1. Truly based.

RE: Deleting systems poll - Steven.Hiller - 03-27-2023

if i may add my 2 cents worth

What lured me to Disco in the beginning was the nice tech and possibilities players had that no other mod gave.

1 of them was vast space when i first explored galia space for the first time there where mine fields with turrets you needed to go through for like 3 systems before you found your way to actually be in galia and using those routes to smuggle often ended up in you being dead and redo the trip but it was all fun and travel and exploring finding new stuff and places and seeing pretty scenery was awe jaw dropping.

2 the base building was super awesome and tech that you can manufacture on POB's that you can not buy from NPC bases was super cool too it made people bond together because hey every damn pilot dreamed of owning a cloak one day.

3 then there were jump drive tech and you could jump transports and then barges no that was the bomb people working 9 to 5 could come home do with many friends a good mining session filling the barge there would be pirates trying to loot the barge and miners and there be protection for the barge and miners and people stood together and even with all that going on the barge made its sale and the whole faction got paid for activity if you wanted to make serious credits you joined a barge mining faction all would get a piece of the pie and all had a good nights fun.

today disco feel like a campers paradise cause 1 pirate is to lazy to do the leg work and are changing Freelancer Discovery into Freelancer Fortnight and regardless how big or small the server play space is you will get nice guys and total asses and kind seeks kind at least with bigger systems you can kinda in way stay away from the a-holes on the server where if you make it smaller the a-hole is in your face all the time = dont want to play on the server anymore

and for these trolls going around killing peoples POB's with like 1 line rp posts on forum is also crap.

People spend months to build up bases and sit through the night for weeks to get things done and build story lines about it and around
then a tool headed wing nut comes along erm Duh uh i not like your duh uh base uh declare duh attack on it duh uh dude....
and that is then acceptable to destroy all your hard work admins and devs should disable base attacks and make them indestructable like npc baseses from attacks then it will be the end of these trolls and grievers that get off and a kick out of people hard work being destroyed that give like zero uplifting effects to the comunity and factions and people that work hard and want a nice clean game
i have seen greavers and trolls with more sanction notice pages then role play pages but yet they allowed to go on and when honest hard working uplifting players that actually help new people come to the server and buy them cool ships and give them cool stuff just for free and encourage them to have a good time on the server get run of by these bad people and when the nice guys loose their cool they get kicked in the nuts by admins but is ok will take it rules was broken and take your punishment like a man

so working towards fortnight and leaving the trolls with sanction sheets longer then rp sheets on server is just a recipe to one day pull the final plug on the server

Honestly, I'm not against axing certain systems, perhaps merging others. Just as long as there's a viable replacement for certain areas of the verse. It's already been said, but we need the Discovery aspect of Discovery.

If I'm not able to run away to a frontier system and be that nobody scraping by on the fringe, then what's the point of so many factions in this game, really?

It's bad enough as it is with the Omicrons so crowded. Core's introduction hasn't helped that region's vibe at all. It's cool and all, the principle of the faction, what they're supposed to represent, but it's taken away from that unknown, that true feeling of being on the edge of the known space, or perhaps even, unknown space.

I miss being able to fly through Discovery and just enjoy the vibe of systems. Everything is so bland nowadays.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'd be sad to see active systems go. However, there will always be the next active system along. Lorraine goes, Burgundy becomes the next active system. So it's a shite argument to make.

That said, I still believe axing systems isn't the way forwards. Making the verse smaller is just going to make it less appealing to be in as we'll have less and less variance in general atmosphere.

RE: Deleting systems poll - Megaera - 03-27-2023

Every item you cut from the game is another player, who has been using or RPing with said item, who will leave the game. It will not bring activity when you take stuff from people who actually enjoyed farming or mining x zone. They will just go play something else because you just deleted whatever kept them playing in the first place. There has not been a game in history which improved from less content.

I mean, to me this is basic logic. Give people less to do and you will have less players. Less players is less things to do, which is less players again. But keep cutting content. Keep nerfing stuff until the game is unplayable for people who don't spend their whole life in conn. Keep fixing stuff that isn't broken.

RE: Deleting systems poll - Stewgar - 03-28-2023

Cutting systems on the basis of driving player activity is so backward. As Meg says, people have left the game and will continue to leave the game since their little slice of pixel space was disrupted or deleted that they enjoy playing in. Until systems are adjusted with the feedback of the players that actually plays in them, the community will continue to shrink. People who want to interact with each other will naturally gravitate there. Taking away systems will also remove safe havens for people who want to hang out with their own group and not have the same toxics shadow log, 1/2 kill, and then logging out.

Not like it matters anyway. Community is dead and most of the devs that cared left.

RE: Deleting systems poll - Swifty - 03-28-2023

I don't think i should be the one remind you, those who know, what happened the last time we asked for transparency from the staff during some already ongoing troubling times. A Heavy Decision was dropped like a nuke on Nagasaki on the people who cared enough to be open and vocal about it, asking for some explanations that we thought we deserved but never fully got and pointing out the obvious stuff that happened and quickly got brushed under a carpet as if nothing happened.

The way i see it, they "feel" like it is unnecessary for the mod to have 100s of systems for such low player base. While i somewhat feel that reason, it's just not enough of a reason to keep cutting down everything to the point where we return to vanilla + Gallia on the map. That's not what Discovery was meant to be. And definitely not used in such instance where certain people get things their way while others get screwed over with silly implementations that makes an area basically impossible to get accustomed to or to play. (Gallia - Gallic Union, Rheinland- Compromised gov and a forced story King/Emperor that was unheard of until the end of civil war that was forced and uncalled for ((i really don't buy the "something new" bs because if that was the case, it wouldnt be such a mess supported by a few)), with the intent to become a vassal state for you-know-who. Outcasts apparently becoming weaker (???) despite them dominating the markets, Corsairs being rather confused about what they want to be even though their options are not in their favor, they still have to rely on doing pirate things. And this are just things that i've seen while lurking, talking to people and confirmed to myself since i returned.)

Even if transparency was given, we still wouldn't have much of a choice except given the idea that our thoughts or ideas are heard and/or will be taken in consideration (illusions m8, lay off the shrooms). They have the keys, they know how to work, and we're just the people who are supposed to enjoy this while it's still running even if we don't agree with the route it's taking and ignore certain unfair choices being made as obvious to the naked eye as they are. What do we know apart from just hating, pointing fingers and being bitteroldvets, right? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
