That was nicely sarcastic. I beleive what Johann was trying to say was anything so obviously displaying corsair ties, would be treated with a huge degree of suspicion especialy in rheinland.

If I saw a freelancer falcata with krakens while flying my LN, I'd be mighty suspicious of what they were up to, and spend a good deal of time questioning, and making the guy feel highly unwelcome. Partialy due to the fact the normal situation my LN character sees outcast ships is when they're shooting at me.

Well, guys, as someone who's flown a freelancer ID'd (albeit not IFF'd until recently) character for quite a while, it's like this:

What they SHOULD see:
  1. ID
  2. Tag (IFF)
  3. Ship
  4. Equipment
What they TEND to see:
  1. Tag (IFF)
  2. Ship
  3. Equipment
  4. ID
My freelancer used to fly a Firefly, then switched to an Orca when he got more into exploration. Before the /droprep command, it used to be entirely a pain to change reps if you didn't have a week to spend just doing that, especially on a character that didn't start out AS a Freelancer.

Now - the interesting thing about what you're suggesting here is simple: As a Freelancer - you can't pirate.

Allowed ships: Fighters, Bombers, Freighters, Transports, Gunboats
Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime.

So you can run around trying to fulfill the bounty contracts on lawfuls where-ever, you can trade (possibly and probably illegally), and you can annoy the crap out of people in house space. But you can't pirate. Keep that in mind if you're going to use that loadout.

Personally, I think it'd be a great RP ID. You fly into house space, and head for Cambridge. You're a 'trader' that hauls for Corsairs, bringing them food. The BAF starts to give you a ration of crap because you're obviously showing Corsair leanings. But you're NOT a pirate (pirate ID) and you're not a Corsair. You're just one of those ugly guys that the cops don't like, so while they know you're wearing a black leather jacket and riding a Harley - you're not officially wearing Hells Angels colors.

I don't know how many times I had people (pirates included) that saw my Bowex IFF and start to come up to me - then see the Orca and do a, HUH?, never even bothering to look at my ID. I even had one pirate argue with me that Bowex couldn't have that ship - and I had to thunk him on the head about, "I'm a freelancer, you moron." and then pew-pew him into submission.

You know damned well what I meant, I treat the guy like he was a regular Corsair.

Wouldn't it be OORP for any Rheinlander to want a Corsair out of Rheinland? Lawful or Unlafull.

Joe is right with that. If I encounter a Corsair IFF, I am already on my toes. Moving closer to the ship, to get the ID. If the ID is one of a corporation, I tell them, that their IFF transponder is broken.
When the ID is generic like Mercenary or Freelancer, I ask him to stop.
Then he will get questioned and in 90% of all situations he ends up moving out of Rheinland space, because his explanations are telling me, that he is close to the Corsairs.

He will be treatened as any other Corsair. "Move out of Rheinland or I will show syou the only spot to stay inside our space. Vierlande."
Everybody gets his chance, if they dont comply, they get shot at. Its not the lawfull, who wants a fight, its the unlawfull then. Dancing on the laws nose is always a bad idea. Getting shot at after that, is a total common roleplay behaviour.

No officer would let a possible troublemaker roam around inside his space. Corsair IFF, Generic ID and no good excuse, are enough reasons to think of a bully.
