Armour upgrades - Jinx - 06-18-2009 no - that is not what "people" think about it.... that is what " i " think about it. Armour upgrades - Stoat - 06-18-2009 tbh, I wasn't thinking of it from a jealousy point of view. Couldn't really care less if a transport has Cap VIII or no armour. I was coming at this from more of a realism point of view. It seems to me that it is a called Captital Armour Upgrade because it is meant for Capital ships, and Capital ships, in Disco, are the warships.. Armour upgrades - Eppy - 06-18-2009 Simply put, no. I, a player with a trader as my primary character, am sick and tired of being pirated. I have nothing wrong with pirates and I respect their career choice, but quite frankly it's my money and it's my damn ship, and I am not going to let people take my money and walk all over me. Hence, the rich trader buys a Cap Armor Mk VIII to protect his current investment at the cost of a couple hundred thousand profit per run. I have no problem sacrificing a small portion of my total output if it means overall more of my cargo reaches its destination because I'm successfully pirated less along the way. A Royal Liner with nine guns, 200000 armor and a Cap Mk VIII is quite a deterrent to some of the lower level pirates, I've found, and in a convoy you can drop gunboats easily, and I think it's my right to choose bigger armor over short-term maximized profits. My character is a very proud, very paranoid man, and it suits him just fine. Why should we be defenseless cash cows? Make the pirates WORK for their money (which, when dealing with me, believe me, they do). EDIT: Also, arguing that it shouldn't be used because of a name or an infocard or what have you is a pointless debate over semantics and isn't valid when dealing with game mechanics like this. Save semantics for the rule lawyering, please. Armour upgrades - jammi - 06-18-2009 I suppose you could link it to FLhook, where if an armour upgrade was mounted, Fl would check what power plant the ship had, and if it was below the needed amount for the ship type the upgrade was designed for, the game would crash when you undocked, or the FLhook green text would appear saying "Sorry, your ship structure cannot support Capital Armour 'X'". Armour upgrades - mjolnir - 06-18-2009 No 1. The ship classes were balanced with equal armor upgrades on them. So they would need some re-checking. 2. No idea how to implement it easily, only thing I can see working is power drain. Armour upgrades - NonSequitor - 06-18-2009 I vote "No". I have cap 8 on one character. It's a larger capital ship (not a BS) and needs all the reinforced armor I can put on it. If one is trying to achieve "realism" this isn't the way to go about it. Capships are gimped enough as it is. Ok, cap armor 8 is ridiculously expensive, about 9 times the price of my vessel. I suspect the price was set to its current level to make it to make it rare in order to prevent all that awful cap abuse I keep hearing about. And getting higher-end armor keeps the traders plying their trade. Personally, I think cap armor, in particular cap 8, should be a good deal cheaper - something like 450 million. It would still be pricey enough to keep it in lower numbers, while still being attainable. Armour upgrades - Jordi - 06-18-2009 I voted not because it would certainly reduce some possible good RP reasons. For example some units may want to make a super-protected GB for special missions under-cover Need for a super-protected Liner to host the president of Liberty etc The size and cost limitations should be enough. Armour upgrades - MarvinCZ - 06-18-2009 This has a strong "no" from me. It would be just a lot of fuss for not much actual gain. Even if it was "just" a flhook plugin and not a new rule, I don't like the tendency to have flhook do everything. And when there was the example of a Royal liner... You don't think a Bowex CEO should have that. Well, what if it was the Royal Liner? The Bretonian equivalent of Air Force One? That's as close to a flagship as they come. Defensive capabilities of the ship would be of utmost importance, extra bits armour everywhere you can keep them from falling off... Armour upgrades - Zeb Harley - 06-18-2009 Take away all of the armor upgrades and set the armorlevels of all ships equal to them having equipped the same armor upgrade. And then: Take away all the variety in gun and turret equipment and set every ship-loadout the same. And then: Take away all differences in CDs, CMs, thrusters and scanners. And then: Take away the free choice of ship at all, but implement an unremovable ID to each ship, so you have to be what ship you fly. And then: Take away the sheer number of different ships which are for sale right now, all you need is the Eagle for a fighter, the Train for a Transport and two or three bigger warships as battleships. And then you get: A really peaceful Sirius. A very quiet one. Very quiet. Oh, I forgot: You were talking about only the first slice of all of this! Well, why don't take the whole sausage at once? As a Ketchup I would like to suggest we replace all those different names everybody has with generic numbers from 1 to 100.000, if you please. I am sure, I would really love the red colour. I forgot to add: I voted "NO" Armour upgrades - jammi - 06-18-2009 ' Wrote:And when there was the example of a Royal liner... You don't think a Bowex CEO should have that. BMM has one as a corporate flag ship for example. It's stationed in Cambridge so their officers can head over for R&R. I'll post the ship's bio if you want. EDIT: I don't mean the infocard, I mean the ship's bio we wrote to explain the Henry VIII's past and reasons for existing. |
