Increase NPC visibility distance - Tenacity - 08-07-2009 I'm not asking for 14-15k view distance for NPC's. 5k is plenty, as only capship missiles outrange that at 5500. I just thought it was ridiculous that I was sitting at 3-4k from the mission waypoint (which is where these BH Dessies were) and I was still getting hit by their fire when i couldnt even see them. Increase NPC visibility distance - komet - 08-09-2009 I can think of a few reasons the distance is set that way, and as Hribek pointed out earlier, the value that says "Distance NPC's appear/disappear" is in Freelancer's executable or a .dll file, so it is possible to change the value. Anyways, a few of those reasons are to prevent additional sever lag/cut down on the operations FL Server has to do and to make outrunning NPC's possible (if you didn't notice, their thrusters go faster than players' thrusters) My vote on this is to keep the NPC view distance the way it is, as it's already annoying enough being chased down by miscellaneous NPC's that have unlimited CD's. But if the value were to be increased, make it only like 3.5 K or something close to the original value. Increase NPC visibility distance - reavengitair - 08-09-2009 Im still voting extend the range. I think 3.5-4k view distance for NPC is a necessary feature with the way capital ship weapons have evolved in 4.85. I do hope someone with technical knowledge can shed some more light on this. |
