Selling Ships and RP legality - chovynz - 08-22-2009

' Wrote:Hyoong, please don't mistake my intentions, while yes, I do probe at a way to improve things that involve change, it saves things from stagnating in a sense. But there is also the issue against me that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I admit that.

My opinion polls, are not public campaigns against anything, I start them, because I am genuinely curious about things, I ask questions a fair bit, its the way I am.

When it comes to selling ships, yes, it does urk me that there is a chance for faction military equipment to got to anyone with money. I have nothing against Zoner, Civilian, and possibly pirate class vessels, House military stuff gunboat and above, just urks me in the back of my brain a little.

In a sense in my mind, its powergaming. While, yes this is a game, people put effort and time into this game to RP in those vessels, and to have time in them. To sell these ships to people who just trade, trade, and trade some more that usually, lets face it traders don't always RP. There are those who do, don't get me wrong, its just the majority that I see, don't.

This is a touchy subject, but I have chosen my stance and stick with it. We all have our opinion on this, and I never expect people to always agree with me, that is the point of a discussion, nay a forum.

I never intend to cause ill will. I merely ask for discussions, that is the point of a forum in my eyes.

Hyoong, while your opinion of me doesn't bother me, I do say, that I never try to cause trouble unless I say I am. I just ask for a discussion or a banter on these rather controversial topics.
I'll clarify what I said and what I meant by it.
I have no bad opinion of you, Fletcher. In fact I quite enjoy your posts. But my problem with *makes a swirly motion in a circle, hand palm down, pointer finger extended* "you" is the shear amount of indepth analysis produced of concepts that don't need fixing ... usually. They often result in discussions that can't be resolved so quickly, and those I know who actually would be affected, hardly post in them. So the end result is a skewed picture (not your fault), of what the subject was. Which then gets quoted out of context and people start saying "oh but I thought *this* was the case of what the community thought."

Your methods are good. You raise interesting questions. I guess what I'm asking you to do, is ... slow down on the topic creation. For the last couple of weeks you've made many topics, asking for peoples opinions on this or that. Many of the topics ARE controversial. Many of the topics aren't needed, since "peoples opinions" aren't usually what helps the topic. For instance the "Should Admins be allowed to RP?" thread, was, in my mind, completely unnecessary. If you look at it one way, I could say that you were intentionally stirring up, or getting the community to "badger" the admins. You know the admins are a touchy subject already, and yet you still choose to go question what they can and can't do. The simple answer is of course they should be able to RP! They are players just as we are. The only difference is that they have an extra responsibility to keep the server running. They are "outside of Roleplay" in their admin role, in space, but there is no reason why they cannot roleplay IN their admin role. It's a bit of "fun", and the peoples opinions in that thread, could sway the rest of the community into stating that the admins *Shouldn't* RP.

Which, is RP forcing, and potentially could take away the little bit of fun that the Admins DO have time for. Because, after reading your thread, people will go away from there thinking that Admins "Shouldn't RP", based on the replies, in that opinion thread. So when they DO rp, for some stress relief people will go, "Your not allowed to do that!"

Too many people saying that kind of stuff to an already overworked Admin, can lead to strange things happening.

It is good to ask questions. EA have a very good motto in "Challenge Everything". I add to that, "Hold onto that which is Good."

Ask yourself sometime, "what do these opinion polls actually achieve?" Are you wasting time on the forums when you could be ingame/at work? You obviously love accuracy and in-depth details. Why don't you come work on the wiki with me instead of making topics that you KNOW are controversial, or are just opinion-fests?

One benefit of allowing people to Sell anything they can (obviously, selling Admin given ID's/equipment are out of the question, since they did not give it to the buyer, they gave it to the seller on certain conditions that the buyer might not be aware of,) is that we, the forum, gets to see exactly who those people are. Stopping it will not change those people's thoughts or behaviour, but by seeing them sell their stuff and who they are, someone might be able to come alongside and say, "there is a better way." Allowing Ship sales, shows up who is doing it "right" and who is doing it "wrong", where as (if public opinion has it's way) if ship sales are banned, forces that "behaviour" or thinking underground.

My focus is coaching people to be better.
Your focus is to stop/start certain behaviour from happening (via opinion polls in the community). This does not fix the thinking, that the behaviour comes from.

Do you see what I'm saying? Your questions, while good, might be better in a place where it actually does good instead of potential harm (in the form of forcing RP, or shutting certain things down, starting other things up.)

Again, I don't have a bad opinion of you, I just thought it was time, like yourself, to voice my thoughts about a problem I see.

@Hyoong Soong, yeah I guess I do need to slow down on my 'opinion' or just topics in general. I usually get locked off the server due to capacity, so I either ramble the forums or play another game.

About that Admin topic, in my mind I intended it to be a bit of a joke topic and I wish there was a delete button in hindsight. My lack of thinking ahead did that and I apologize for the topic.
