Civilians in Disrtress - dead_shot - 08-19-2009

I do it in RL, I'd do it in RP as well. I'm just that kind of person... Seeing newbie being bullied by some "over-pirate" would make me mad same as seeing bully taking it out on some poor kid on the street. Especially since we know how wide the age span of people here is, many seem to forget it and for some kid it might be really stressing to be bullied here, where he most probably escaped from the RL bullies.

Depends on which character I'm on.

If I'm on my trader ... eehhh .. not so much. It usually doesn't pay off. On the other hand if it's in my vicinity, I check to see how much damage I'll take/how much damage I can do. Yah don't need to kill the poor sods, just scare em off. Often times, another ship showing up is enough to put the pirates on edge.

If on the other hand I'm in a lawful fighter, yes definitely. Trader need all the help they can get.

If on the third hand I'm in my pirate craft, yes definitely. That poor defenceless pirate, all alone out there in the middle of space, being ignored or screamed at and blinded by the landing lights by a mean ol' trader. Someones got t' help the po'r ol' soul.

I chose respond, for a very simple reason: It sounds like an RP opportunity. Someone's gone to the trouble to park his ship out of the way and transmit Mayday? Cool. I'm there.

Of course... this depends on situation. A carda-filled smuggler can't always show up, and so on, but generally, yes, respond.:)

I wouldn't respond, sure I'd do it IRL but here, meh. If the person is foolish enough not to know where the pirates are it's their own fault.

Shouldnt civilians be afraid of any bad people wishing to harm them?.. instead of acting heroes?

Civilians in Disrtress - jxie93 - 10-07-2009

there are many different kinds of civilians, there are cowards and wannabe heroes, also greedy fatsos who'd probably charge the person after they've helped him/her.

As a rule of thumb, I would only answer the distress signal once. The next time the civilian ship is on its own.
Moreover, a civilian shouldn't be in a situation where he/she needs help, except against NPCs.

It very much depends on what ship I'm in and what I'm doing at the time.

For example, I only have one Trader, so if I'm in that and someone needs help, I'll go and help... *IF* I don't have a load on. If I have a load on, it's see ya peoples, I'm off like a 3 day old fish.

Any of my other ships... yeah I'm on it.

Yeah, but I'm quite sure that IRL, most civilians wouldn't jump into a gunfight, even if they were armed. Some few might do, but those would be an exception to the common "just get away ASAP" civvie.

I voted ignore. It's the police's/military's job to fight pirates, not yours. Help them when you happen to be right next to them, but don't go out of your way to protect some competitor's employee for no gain at all (hey, you *are* a corporation after all).
