Trader: As a GMG Trader there are good runs, some risk and RP opportunities at times.
'Pirate': If by Pirate you mean imposing fines on smugglers (heh they have called my GMG pilot a pirate;)).
Miner: Not really any opportunity to do that, ironic given I am part of the Gas Miners Guild...

problem with cargo pirating is that there arent really any decent ships to solo pirate in.
The pirate transport comes closest, but at only 3400 or so cargo it's not going to be able to take an entire load from a train.
Most transports either dont have enough firepower or dont have a cruise disruptor or dont have enough cargo space to effectively pirate cargo. It's one of those things that needs to be done in groups or not at all.
If only my salvager had a disruptor hardpoint...

I like to be a trader mostly because I don't favor killing people, people or NPC. I admire playing as the humble trader that would eventually become rich (though fame isn't really very important for me). Most importantly, it doesn't have to affect lives in negative ways. In fact, profit is only secondary or third to my priorites; the first is my conscience.
A smuggler's my second bet, but that doesn't mean I have to be an UNLAWFUL smuggler, no. I like the prospect that I would be one of those blockade runners smuggling emergency supplies through wars, skirmishes or even pirate blockades/territories, and defy undefinable odds and maybe risk my own life so that the innocent men and women that need them, get them, or transport those same souls to a new beginning. I don't go for that sleezy-ass crap (cardamine, synthetic marijiuana, tobacco), no matter how much the profit... well, maybe profit comes in second or third in my priorities... Although, the other side WOULD call me a pirate, but I won't hold anything against them: they have their ideas, and I have mine.
A miner's my third choice, despite that I have never been one.
But you should know I would NEVER, EVER be a pirate. Despite the charm of having to risk my life and be able to tell stories that I was able to defeat an entire fleet of navy patrols (and maybe a BS) just for the sake of a buck, or to be able to get rich quickly from the mountains of profit that I would be able to amass in such a short time (with the right amount of capital, that is), I despise such blood money. I do not wish to stain my hands with the blood of hundreds (hell, maybe even thousands, or 10x more) for the sake of my own personal gain; or, if not kill people, would have that gnawing knowledge that I deprived countless lives of their livelihoods, and have sowed the seeds for more violent actions in both situations, leading to more blood, death and suffering.
NO! I choose not to be like that... seriously... Even if it were just a game, I shall stick to my choice anytime.
Anyone that wants to call me names or think lower of me isn't worth my time, nor would I hold anything against them... I understand. If being in the military was the fifth choice, it would still be the third, since, as I have stated, I despise shedding blood. I would only fight in self defense.
But I guess I would join the Navy because they at least try to prevent more suffering and death in a more direct way...

I smuggle all the time on my Junker and due to his background I sometimes go out on mining expeditions or salvage operations and stuff. I rarelly pirate, but I think I do that more than lawfull trading even.

Of course I prefer to hide from pirates. In fact they make my life miserable, and my discovery experience would be better without them. Bring back the old 'can demand only cargo' policy please. anyway the purpose of this thread is not to discuss that, but it is actually possible to make money as navy. Just very very slowly, escorting ships. I dont do that though, but I expect theres lots of players wanting a cruiser escort. My trader would. However I'd rather risk it as I'm not prepared to split loot 50:50.
