Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - Birdtalon - 09-05-2009 ' Wrote:Just refrain from spamming the system chat with your auto-role play please! Automessages can be good as well. I use automessages for. 1. Hailing the system. 2. Asking someone to Identify themselves 3. Setting a new course. All the rest I type as I go. Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - Sprolf - 09-05-2009 When I RP on my order capital ship, I ever only use Local Chat unless the situation calls for it, and even then I don't spam it with my crewmembers talking back and forth. But yes, whenever I'm in game, I RP like it's the end of the world. ~ Khonsu, in case you were wondering. I haven't seen much from him, but from the 3 experiences I've had with him, he's quite the RP'er. EDIT: Whoops, I misread the last line, sorry Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - n00bl3t - 09-05-2009 If we role-played the super clandestine shadowy organisation of The Order well, the Captain's and the Navigation Officer's dialogue can be heard through an entire system, especially considering they are standing near enough each other and any communication channels in the ship would be highly encrypted and/or hardwired. (Having said all that, it increases the general feeling of RP when this is ignored and you talk IC more. In general, I like this thread.) Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - Birdtalon - 09-05-2009 Well, not even the other people in secure comms would hear the crew members jabbering. And in a real-life situation, there probably wouldn't be so much communication between sides either:D The Black ASP doesnt exist anymore. It was upgraded to an Osiris named Anath (i think thats correct) Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - n00bl3t - 09-05-2009 ' Wrote:And in a real-life situation, there probably wouldn't be so much communication between sides either:D True. The point being made is, it is no so much proper role-play per se, but just a move which makes other people's game-play more fun, as well as sometimes your own. As well as something that adds to the general RP atmosphere. Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - Janus - 09-05-2009 Personally I dislike seeing a ship's internal communications over system or local chat, nor do I think it's neccessary. The existence of multiple crew members sure, it won't always be the captain on the bridge or handling routine comms traffic, but seeing the internal stuff bugs me a little. Well, you have to do it in moderation. Endless banter isn't good, but remotely sensible communications between crew members can be broadcast. Plus, different crewmembers might handle different incoming transmissions. Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - Ayem - 09-05-2009 I tend to err on the side of Captain and comms officer/XO only, unless others aboard my ship have a desire to speak up. During negotiations or diplomacy, to explain a threat, etc. My Captains will and do refer to others on the bridge though, and sometimes that is caught by the transmission. I agree with N00bl3t above, that RP atmosphere can and should at times trump realism. Dramatic irony can be used to winning effect, for example. One side operating under a certain set of information, while the other is ignorant to it. Most of my Mollies, on seeing an Order ship, have no idea what it is and will gibber on happily as if they're just some sort of militant civilian. Just because you are writing the orders and acknowledgements inship does not mean that they are for the ears of other characters, they are for the understanding of other players on a meta level. It all helps bring people into the plot unfolding in any given situation, particularly with those who are not yet comfortable with their own RP skills. Edit: Just noticed I said the same thing as Sprolf in the first paragraph, so I guess I agree with him too. Attention: Order Capital Class ships. - Birdtalon - 09-05-2009 Its finding that Happy medium - What to say is system/local and what to keep to group. But if you see the Order "OORPers" that I refer to, they dont even have a Captain and XO |
