More shortcuts (jumpholes, jumpgates) are seriously needed in this MOD - Joe pineapples - 08-01-2007

I must admit to not having played VOID but it occurs to me that at least part of the point of this mod lies in it's title ie Discovery.

The opportunity to be able to go anywhere from everywhere and to take very little time to do it will significantly reduce the sense of acheivement gained in spending time trading and building up both a characters ship and bank balance, not to mention the opportunities to role play.

I've had loads of fun planning trading routes around certain systems because they are controlled by pirates (or some other faction I happen not to be very popular with). Not being able to do this wil detract from the fun of the mod and significantly unbalance it.

Whilst I dare say there are areas in which the mod could be improved I am not at all convinced that this is one of them - and I'm not saying I've found any areas yet either! .

That's why I don't play Oblivion.

Illogically fast travel, especially in a sci-fi world, makes no sence. There are a few overly long routes in original FL, and I have to keep them, but nexus systems and shortcuts will never be included into this mod. Omicron Delta was sort of minor nexus at some point, providing multiple entries into Nomad systems, but they had no trade routes (this was generally done for fun), and, besides, this was long ago fixed.

P.S. Also please avoid bashing other mods here, got enough of this on TLR and other forums.

First of all Igliss... thank you for this wonderful mod.
I do have to say this is the closest interpretation of the vanilla I have seen so far.
I have played the VOID and it is not bad, but joining all the major house planets together through a series of Jumpgates is a bad idea.
The game play is not freelancer either.
Things that I would like to see in the next iteration of Discovery (wish list):
1. More rotating planets....All the planets should move albeit very slowly. Slow enough so you have to stop and look at the planets to see the movement.
2. Retexture of some ships to make them more FL like.
3. More Bombers....(we all know they are in short supply).
4. A jump hole from Hokkaido to the Omicron alphs system.... thru clan systems if needed.

I am working on my ship creation skills but the end product looks real creepy, but I will keep working to see if I can provide you with some good inventory. Take care.

Why hokkaido to alpha?

They are right next to each other yet to go there, go gotta go to one of the side systems(Beta/37). The advantage can be nerfed by making you reappear far away in a clan system (for example the jump from the police system in Kusari space to shikoku) then have you travel and come out in alpha through a clan system.

The reason for this is to add another variable and to Allow traders/smugglers to escape through another route. May be have a GMG base in there somewhere and let the OC's and GMG encounter each other in either extreme north Hakkaido or a clan system. (...its a wish list...rmeember ?):)

Unselie: Unbalance? Hardly, there are many elements in Discovery that make it still quite difficult, the fact that NPC's use shield batteries and nanobots for example, etc. No, there would still be a great deal of challenge left, as I mentioned, travel times are ridiculous.

Epyon the Bored: Since this is a forum, I will use any and all words I see fit to make my point, even THE VOID word.

Ghost Cat: There has been an addition of something like 63 new star systems in this MOD. Yes there is a discovery element to it but with that many systems it would be nice to get around a little quicker.

commodore: I am picturing commodore a friendless, fat slob of a boy sitting at a computer with no life to speak of that obviously has megalomanical tendancies. Who the hell do you think you are? You tell me to stop because YOU control a part of space that is NOT yours but is public domain? The next time I see you I will scatter your remains all across this MOD's universe kiddo.

I've said it before and I will say it again, there needs to be little speed added to the travel times to make it more about Discovery instead of spending all of my time getting from point A to point B in 2 hours so I can discover C.

That would just make discovery another pvp mod. This is a role play mod. Making people play for it all. It is about conveying the Vanilla feel not some uber mod. Believe me we could throw it in if everyone wanted it. But this is not some total conversion mod. It is a role play mod, based in vanilla and is for the community.

Calm your ass down before you get yourself hurt.

That's RP, numbnuts. His character assumes it's his space, therefore, he can tell you to stop if he damn well wants to.

If you don't like how the mod is, then leave. Travel times are supposed to exist, or there would be:

1. Uber trade routes.
2. more PvP whores.
3. Completely Un-RP situations (Kusari only having to jump one system to attack Nomads.)

Note how people that use the Speed Mod are banned. Patience is a virtue, especially in this mod. Now be satisfied with how things are. Discovery is supposed to be realistic. There's not going to be one system where you can jump to anywhere, will there?

I can come up with several commodities off the top of my head that can be bought and sold on the home worlds for huge profit. Nexus system is bad Idea. Uber trade routes waiting to happen.

Hard?
NPC are so easy right now, that they have to attack you in 30+ groups to be a threat.
The first time you fight the NPC can be frustrating because of the low level guns a Starflier has. but after that, the NPC are no longer a threat.

What's wrong with the void word? You say it as if it were some kind of bad word or something...

' Wrote:Ghost Cat: There has been an addition of something like 63 new star systems in this MOD. Yes there is a discovery element to it but with that many systems it would be nice to get around a little quicker.
No. There will be no shortcuts. having shortcuts spoils the hugeness feel of the map.
I've played "shortcutted" mods before, and I didn't like any as after a while you already explored the whole map and the discovery element is no longer present.
Also, you don't need two hours to cross Sirius. Only 15 minutes.
Unless you are following the longest routes and fighting every single NPC that comes down your path..

You better calm down...

Get used to it. This is the discovery mod, not the "Super Roadcross nexus ultra speedmod 24/7" server.
