how bout light fighters with just one, big, slow-firing gun?

Space Tank - Panzer - 08-20-2007

Something like modern close support arcraft? hmm, might work. A similar concept was the German me 262 /U4, where the four mk 108 30mm guns were replaced by an anti-tank 50mm one.

Another way of making a capship's life miserable?

A way of doing this might be a new weapon type, moutable only in a special slot of a modified VHF. Enlarged power capacity, double torp mount, one gun slot for this special gun... might work...

Space Tank - Dopamino - 08-20-2007

exactly, maybe two missiles/cds instead of torps. we need more to discourage capship use

Space Tank - BestFlyerHere - 08-20-2007

To discourage cap use, let's redo the money system.

Fighters cost max 500k, but capships cost about 800 mil. Trade routes will be nerfed, a lot. Battleships won't even be worth the trouble if you're not a faction. Letting a single VHF kill a BS is unrealistic, and unbalanced.

Space Tank - Panzer - 08-20-2007

Hell, yeah...

Currently, setting up a fighter from zero is and expense of around 20 mil. (armor costs 15)

A battleship naturally costs much more, but still not enough. They are alo easy to lose. Along with a price upgrade, a huge boost of stats should follow. These shisp are after all the kings of the space.

If only there was a way of making cap vs cap fights longer.... Maybe a huge increase in weapons range? 10 kilometer targeting range, some guns could hit at 10k, seen it work on one other mod... Even WW2 battleships could sink eachother from over 20-30k, so the technology of the third millenium should be at least equal to that, no? (jeez, in space a propelled hunk of mater can go at a consant speed into infinity if not affected by some bigger gravity wells)

OFF TOPIC!

the original idea was basically to have a heavily armored freightor. like the armored transport or the spatial

and to make it like a tank have one big gun on it...turret actually...to make it spacy it'd need two. one on top, one on bottom...or one on each side...the point of that would be to eliminate blind spots

so the thing would move like a freighter...act like a freightor. just a more expensive and more combat feasible means of trading without having to spend 45 million on a container transport.

basically i just wanted to see more ships like the armored transport and the spatial...they are basically what i was trying to do here. i just thought the adding one big cruiser turret would be interesting

Space Tank - Panzer - 08-20-2007

The thing is:

when making a new weapon, you make it as a means against a weapon of your enemy.

And the way I imagine this tank ingame, any other ship already present ingame would be a perfect weapon against it.

A more welcome addition would be a true torpedo bomber. four torp/CD mounts, new torp type, requiring ammo, dealing horrific damage (yes, uber torpedo) and occupying enough space, that a bomber could load a max of four of them. One well-placed salvo and a BS is down.

Space Tank - me_b_kevin - 08-20-2007

this "tank" would serve the same purpose as the Spatial and the Armored Transport. So they would act the same as them.

if i'm not mistaken the Armored transport can mount gunboat turrets?

so this wouldn't be any different aside from being freightor sized if not a wee bit bigger. and instead of multiple gunboat turrets it'd have a pair of cruiser turrets. i thought it would equal out the firepower.

maybe i'm explaining it wrong

Space Tank - Panzer - 08-20-2007

Well, if so...

During WW 1 and 2 there was a class of ships called raiders and auxiliary cruisers. Freighters covertly armed with battleship/cruiser turrets. Something like this could be done here too.

Armored transport, much less cargo space (still enough to trade) with one or two battleship turrets. Same ship type, better shield, a bit more armor, at first glance, a noob trader, easy target even for a lone pirate/terrorist.

Surpirsie!!! it is blowing the piarte off with a flak/CD combo. A cargo scan didn't give away the secret, because the raider has the same infocard as the real deal.

And no, arm. transport can't mount GB turrets. Liners can.

Space Tank - me_b_kevin - 08-20-2007

excellent!

one thing to consider is the power drain of the capital ship turrets. these things sound like they'd be overpowered but they'd be limited by the power usage of the turret.
