Capital Ship Realism - Waratah - 03-23-2010 ' Wrote:No. I agree totally...while we are at it lets cut the SNAC range down by half so they have to actually work to get their blue text. :P Capital Ship Realism - Eppy - 03-23-2010 Let me make something very clear. If I trade for weeks upon weeks to get up the cash for a fully kitted Dreadnought and then lose it to three Bombers and some idiot in a Gunship I will not pay a ridiculous sum to have my ship recommissioned. If you want to force consequences on players for flying capships you will first need to give capships lots and lots and LOTS. Of. Balls. Like, balls enough not only to flak all three of those bombers out of the sky, but to nail the two accompanying Cruisers, run the Gunship over, and maul the supporting Battlecruiser while curing world hunger and saving an entire litter of kittens from separate trees while spreading its Battleship genes to Supernova's mom all at the same time. If you're going to make a ship prohibitively expensive to maintain you'll need to give it some kind of advantage to give factions and individual players especially a reason to support them, which would usually come in the form of super-heavy shields, armor, and ridiculously effective anti-everything guns. No, we will not change our names. No, we will not be forced to remove ourselves from RP. We will do none of the above. Not without something to make it worth our while to fly those big behemoths bomberwhores so enjoy blowing out of the sky. Capital Ship Realism - Sprolf - 03-23-2010 Wasn't the entire idea to make them very worthwhile while needing fuel or recommissioning? Capital Ship Realism - Eppy - 03-23-2010 According to him, yes, but we all know that this'll never happen. Capships will never get a boost - if they do we have to take them out of the hands of normal players and relegate them to factions only (either de facto, as this would, or by an actual rule, and we all know there are those three or four powertraders who will work day and night to get the money to keep their ships afloat), and while I have very little in the way of qualms about this, everybody else (and, most importantly, awesome-boss-Igiss-mon) does. So, in the end, it does nothing. Capital Ship Realism - Sprolf - 03-23-2010 Of course it's never going to happen. Nothing will ever be fixed or improved, it shall simply get worse. Capital Ship Realism - EisenSeele - 03-23-2010 ' Wrote:Of course it's never going to happen. =_= no harm in dreaming right? The problem is, capships are ridiculously underpowered because there are too easy to get, and too common. What the admins are trying to do is to limit their ubiquity so not every tom dick and harry has one. I'm just trying to say, rather than nerfing cap ships by making them underpowered, it's better to nerf them by making them harder to maintain so that they're not utter crap, at least during combat. Capital Ship Realism - Sprolf - 03-23-2010 Exactly, and I think it's actually a good idea. Capital Ship Realism - Camtheman Of Freelancer4Ever - 03-23-2010 No. Way. In. Hell. Quote:If I trade for weeks upon weeks to get up the cash for a fully kitted Dreadnought and then lose it to three Bombers and some idiot in a Gunship I will not pay a ridiculous sum to have my ship recommissioned Exactly. This is just as bad as trying to make cap ships carry h-fuel and spaceship crew. Would you really be that cruel a captain to put your crew in the cargo hold? Quote:(and, most importantly, awesome-boss-Igiss-mon) does. Thank god or people like you and Dab would have ruined this place long before now. Capital Ship Realism - Sprolf - 03-23-2010 Hmm. That must mean it's a good idea. Capital Ship Realism - MarvinCZ - 03-23-2010 Realism isn't always welcome. Realism that serves nothing but bothering people (and realism itself) is just a huge drag. The ideas seem to be aimed at annoying people to the point of giving up on capital ships (and thus reducing their numbers). Fuel consumption - bad idea (and one discussed a few times already). Ammo-based everything - bad idea (and not even very realistic in FL world). Huge costs on death - maybe slightly larger than currently, but nothing monstrous. Definitely not "prohibitive". Note that I am not really a cap ship pilot. I just think that this is not the way to go. |
