Am I the only one who thinks Cruiser Solaris are somewhat decent?

All you need to make them good is the ability to chainfire, to have a couple of BRs ready and decent aim. Though, their DPS is somewhat low, so you need 8 to be properly effective.

Though, the only Cruiser I've got Solaris on is my Praefect, and it is pretty much one of the best Cruisers around (insanely good firing arcs, small profile and it is somewhat agile for a Heavy Cruiser), so I'm not sure how they would work on a Scylla, which lacks many of the Praefect's attributes.

Still, there are lots of loadouts out there that work, and often some of the more unorthodox ones can turn out to be really good, so go experiment.

This.Cruiser solaris have maybe 900 m range, not much more than fighter guns, they got low shield and hull damage.Bomber can get into range, fire up snac and get away before you can de-shield him...Try sniping with Razors instead

I have a pretty heavy solaris set up on my LABC and while I find it mildly effective against NPCs... I'm having a hard time believing they'll be too useful against bombers who can snipe from range.

Only way I can see em being half useful is if bombers got nerfed... so that instead of firing fast energy bolts that can't be stopped they fire slower moving torpedos that do massive damage but could be shot down (by fighters or point defense)

The short of it:

4 Solaris turrets on a small BS = effective point defense with moderate energy consumption.

6-8 Solaris turrets on a cruiser/dessie = adequate point defense with significant energy consumption.

Conclusion and suggestion: Cruiser Solaris turrets are kind of poopy. You're better off using primaries and BRs.

In my experience primaries are better if you fly alone or expect to be the one that is targeted.

If you fly in group of more ships and are not targeted then Solaris are the only guns that make you reliably hurt enemy fighters/bombers.

So they are actually better for offense than defense.

They turn SO slow though.

Which is why ill go 6 Primaries, 2 pulses, 2 LM's and 2 BR's

i had a thresher with Solaris and what you say is partially true. Yet if you CHAINFIRE primes, they will do the same just better

This combined with Ashes' post. The Scylla is meant to fly aggressively. In a pack with Solaris it's deadly. Alone it's utterly useless.

added prob with cruiser solloes is the pathetic range. bomber will just thrust out of range in 2 seconds average.
Before you can even try to do some (pathetic) damage

The bigger problem with cruiser Solaris is their awful efficiency, if you have a full Solaris loadout (minus artillery) you'll drain your core - yes, even the heavy cruiser core - in a very short time before dealing enough damage.

For strike craft defence, you're better off with Battle Razors than Craplaris.
