Repair Ship - Hidamari - 04-15-2011 Repair ships should influence cap fights only anyways tbh. also, has anyone here ever played Command and Conquer: Renegade Online ? Repair guns (called Maintenance Tools) can be used on anything to restore health points, and yes, just as you would expect 4 or more infantry (in freelancers case a repair ship) behind a Mammoth Tank (in Freelancers case a Battleship) would create an invincible weapons platform, having all damage inflicted on the tank repaired immediatley (or at least nullified somewhat) greatly improving the effectiveness of the targeted ship. of course this takes a lot of team work, and unlike in renegade where you are placed on the map with the sole objective of obliterating the other teams base, you will not always have 25 people with you with the exact same goal as you, you will likely have 1 maybe 2 at a stretch. and teamwork should be rewarded regardless. Making a repairship in this manner would reduce their use in massive fighter swarms, and increase their use in cap fights, which already are boring at best with the two ships simply charging each other most of the time and not lasting for longer than a few minutes. you can hide behind and repair a battleship safely, you can not hide and repair a cruiser or smaller safley, they are too fast and too small to effectivley repair. In Renegade it is the most commonly used tactic to have tanks (caps for freelancer) lead the charge with technicians (repairships) behind giving active repairs , creating a strong offensive or defensive barricade that requires teamwork and tactics to break. I do not want to see, in my CAU4 LSC, four CAU8 Turtles bearing down on me with repair ships, making them thus, unstoppable. Repair Ship - Hidamari - 04-15-2011 Your Cap 4 Cruiser should not be able to beat four cap 8 turtles, even without the repairships existance in the fight, nor do I think that you really should be alone in such a fight. Like I said, team work is key, your lone commando cruiser will not be able to simply troll all of them at will. if they came prepared they deserve a fighting chance to be victorious. and, if you had any fighter cover then i would be hard pressed to believe that they would not be able to destroy the repairships, as I assume that if they had these repair guns, they would no longer have a collossal ammount of nano bots and batteries. they would be as vulnerable as normal freighters are, hence not invincible. TACTICS FOR THE WIN Edit: Also remember that YOU CAN HAVE THEM TOO, this isnt something that only the enemy will be using, your own fleets will be fielding them too, they would add a much needed dimension to capitalship combat. The only problem i see with switching the repairships to this variation of the role is that shooting a weapon at a capitalship generates an enormouse ammount of screen shake. i think 4 repairships constantly shooting you to repair your ship would be a little too much to take. you would get so sick of it. I went into renegade and fraps'd a short video of the battle taking place, it shows how the repair gun is used in renegade which is the closest thing i know to how this proposal would change the Repairship. imagine all infantry to be freighters or smaller, and all tanks to be cruisers and higher. Repair Ship - Dashiell - 04-15-2011 2 days ago the OC invaded gamma. they had 5-7 dreads and bs. and 1 repair ship. that single repairship made it VERY hard for the Sair side to do any damage. If it had managed to sneak away to restock in theta, as it tried to do, we would be fighting even now. Buff repair ships and we will all die of dehydration behind our keyboards because fights just don't end. |
