That's what I said in the first response on page 1.:P

Apparently, two pages of arguing were needed for somebody else to reach the same conclusion!

I voted yes. It's been proven with more than one Disco faction that with a decent force of bombers and fighters, with or without GBs in support, you can take down pretty much anything. RM and QCRF have taken on the heavies more than once and come out on top. It's more than sufficient for police work. And besides, I don't think any of the official police factions here have anything larger than a gunboat...why should indies be allowed to?

Voted yes.

All the reasons stated above.

Quote:None of the Houses are based on Middle-Eastern or African nations so, I don't think that should apply here.
I voted yes, but Feenix, that point isn't very substantial. The use of equipment is dependent on the situation, not the nationality of something. Frankly speaking, Zelot is right.

The BPA is only going to field one gunboat at the current time, and LFs for everything else.

I am going to vote no. Until the police forces get enough numbers to get enough fighters/bombers on the scene to actually repell the insane quantity of pirates in capships they SHOULD be allowed to use cruisers. Now BS, I dont know. There should be a third option. Allow Cruisers but not BS.

"And besides, I don't think any of the official police factions here have anything larger than a gunboat...why should indies be allowed to?" (lancer zero)

cause they are allowed to - as easy as that. - the reason the official factions don t use so many caps is not cause they must not, - but rather cause they choose to.

anyway - a policeforce should be fine with stuff smaller than gunboats. there is just no reason to fly something much bigger. - however... a decission involves to define the roles of police / military again. cause right now, the military is doing police works, too. each ID should have a unique purpose without other IDs interfering too much.

Very few people are RP-ing as police anyway, most of them are jumping straight to Navy.
So, for powerful enemies, there is a Navy to do the job.
How do you think LPI is dealing with all those scum in Liberty?
We certainly ain't gonna fight an Outcast Battleship with our tiny Patriots.
We call the Navy (SA/LSF) to do their job.
But, for housecleaning, scanning, and the rest smaller crimes, there should be a Police faction.
Most of you are forgetting one important thing.
If Police and Navy ID's are identical, what would be the difference?
And to improve RP, there should be a difference.

For example, i would go that far to put that Navy can't scan ships for contraband (in RP they can ofc, like everyone else, but this is only to give a "need" for a Police faction), while Police can, but Police wouldn't be able to fly anything bigger then GB's.
Set the differences, and RP will be better.
Military/Navy shouldn't be interested in scanning some smugglers or something. They have more important things on their mind.
QCO are doing a good thing in this one, they don't scan for contraband.
And that brought a need for a Brettonia Police faction, which will have their part of the job.
If both military and police are doing exactly the same things, it gets boring, and OORP.

LSF can start an action for finding a way to stop Cardamine smuggling into Liberty for example.
They are not interested in small smugglers, they are interested in source and dealers.
They should act a bit out of Liberty space to do this. For example, sending few units to Coronado/Baffin/Tau-29 would do the job.
Make a blockade or something, i don't really know.
But i simply can't agree that all factions should do the same job.
I know RM would never agree on this, but i had to say it anyway.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is exactly what I said on Page one! It would give the need for police, and prevent people from jumping straigh to the Military Factions.

yes, this is good and it brings more reality to this game... cuz pple have been bugging to try and make this game more realistic... this is 1 step to it... vary good idea... this should also go through with any other factions that are like this.... ex: reinlend but wait... wouldnt that mean that military could only use cap ships? or would the be like drivin hummvees? just a thought

House Police and Capital Ships - Qunitinius~Verginix - 02-04-2008

No, I would gues the Military would still use fighters. Remember, while their are some similarities to RL here, this is set in space, so everyone gets fighters and GB's, but the Military gets the Uber stuff, simply because they are the Military, and need it to defend their systems.
