Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - equinosz - 07-25-2011 Roy sat down in front of Mal, to his left professor Vii and Zenon, while Sebastian to his right. -Indeed we enjoyed the tour, and eventually we found something very interesting. Uhm...sorry for talking about work even during dinner, but it's so exciting - He took off his glasses to clean them. -I think Mal is so excited as you are. -added Roy- So, actually we managed to map the energy flow inside the geode. They concentrate the energy in the middle of the planet where the core ought to be. It seemed like that one crystal is missing from the pattern, they're almost equally distributed over the whole interior of the geode, it seems for me that it's not natural entirely. So... where was I.. Yes, so we sent the drone, to investigate the missing crystal, but it found even stronger energy flows in it's place, but as you can see here -he took out a PFAD showing some pictures- there are no crystals there! -But why is that? -Tell him the radar profile, Roy. -Yes, I have just wanted to say that. We were able to take a radar picture about that place, and it just can't scan it after 3 meters. after about a hundred meter is starts working again. There must be something there! Sealed off from the other parts of the Geode. And as there aren't any crystals at the surface, just rocks I think we can dig ourselves through that point. I can't even imagine what we might find there! But of course we need your permission to get in there. Also, we found out, that the scrubbie schools are always in the metting points of the energy flows. Professor Vii is already trying to find out how they sense the energy. So if you allow it tomorrow morning we will get the necessary equipment and try to cut through the rock. Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - Malaclypse 666 - 07-25-2011 "Well, Roy, I have no problem with an excavation.. just keep it neat and focused. However, I can assure you that there's no mystery involved with the 'missing' crystal. In fact, you'll eventually find two more large crystals 'missing' as well. "Years ago, the three large crystals were taken to Gran Canaria by my partner, Reggie Waverly. They became the focal point of a Memorial Plaza, honoring the memory of three very special women who perished there. "The story of their demise is quite long and complex, but a records search for the "Uli Rouge" Plantation, or for "Ambassador Fiona H. deLuna" should provide you with more details." Mal was somber for a few moments. lost in memories of Dr. Artifice, the Ska Ralla, the deLuna women, and his old friend Shamus. He finally regained his composure. "The interesting part from a scientific point of view is that the crystals lost none of their energetic properties after the move. In fact, they served to create a completely new 'vortex' at the deLuna Memorial's site. "Now, this theory that the Scrubbies tend to congregate at and follow energetic lines is not really surprising. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Terran biologists postulate similar behaviors in certain birds and insects? That is, an ability to sense changes in magnetic and electric fields?" Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - equinosz - 07-25-2011 -Yes, he's right Roy. Although they couldn't really find out how this worked in the case of those animals, but I really want to find it out in the case of the scrubbies. -Answered Vii. -Okay, so the question is why the energy is so concentrated in one point. The crystals couldn't just grow to the right place naturally. There must be something artificial behind this. -lifting his glass he drank a bit from the red wine- And by the way you removed every single small crystal in a territory that big? They started talking about less important things, mainly about the discovery of the geode. They were there for more than two hours, when finally Vii called their attention. -I think we should leave, it was a fantastic dinner, many thanks for it Mal, but we will have a lot of work tomorrow. -Indeed, we have to get ready the equipment for the excavation. So let's meet at 8 in the morning at the Equinox's cargo bay. Mal do you want to come with us? Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - Malaclypse 666 - 07-25-2011 It had been an excellent meal, and a stimulating conversation; but it was time to let these engaging folk ply their trade without further "interpretation" on his part. "Ah, thank you, but I've scheduled a little "good will" tour up into the Taus for a few days, and I won't be available." He rose, and shook hands with the Researchers. "Please let Doc Holliday or one of the TAZ Wardens know if you should require anything in my absence. May Eris bless your endeavors, Professors." Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - equinosz - 07-26-2011 The next morning everybody was already at the Equinox's cargo bay, when Roy entered. -Ah, seems like I am a bit late. So, how's the equipment? -I think everything is ready captain, the drone has been equipped with a strong laser drill and I put another generator to supply the drill. I also readied a few spades, if you find something softer, brushes and the other archaeological stuff you may need. -answered a crew member. -Good, we may also need a diamond cutter. And don't forget about water, and some food. We will be there for quite a long time and we can't just come back, as it's on the other part of the geode. Okay, if no one has anything to say, let's go down. -I'll stay here, I would like to continue my study on the scrubbies- said professor Vii. -Sure, as you wish. ------- It took about two and a half hour to reach the site. The place seemed very desolate apart from the other parts of the geode. Two rangers accompanied them but they were not interested in that specific place at all. There weren't any crystals the scientists could damage, so they went back into one of the car and they tried to relax. The group unpacked the equipment and activated a few sensors. They managed to find the strongest point of the energy flow, so they set that point for the digging site. The first meter the drone dug through easily. The laser managed to cut the rock as the hot knife cuts the butter. But in that part they found some kind of sand, which couldn't be just cut, so the scientist had to manually shovel. I took them an hour to find the carbon type material which the planet consists of. It was quite strong, and the laser was cutting it very slowly. So they tried the diamond drill, which went through it quite nicely. It took them another hour to reach the spot what the radar was showing, when the drill broke. They took it out of the hole and Roy climbed down with Zenon. It was already 4 meter deep, and it seemed they still haven't reached their destination. -Espera Roy! I think I can see algo there... Drop me a spade! -he swept away some debris and found a crystal layer. - Oh dÃos mÃo... -he hit the crystal with the spade, and it cracked. The crack actually started to run towards them, vanishing under the debris. -I don't think that's a good thing. Just as he finished the sentence a loud clashing could be heard and the two fell down. Fortunately the ropes caught them just before they hit what they thought to be the ground. The two scientists were surrounded by darkness but the little light from above showed them that the walls as well as the floor were covered with crystals. They dug their way into one of the smaller geodes, but one that contained a complex, almost artistical crystal structure. The gems that covered the interior were fragile and clear, and pretty hard to the touch. What they first had thought to be the bottom of the geode turned out to be a crystal that looked like it had been cut off. It formed a platform about half a meter below the two scientists and on it there seemed to be some kind of structure or machine. -You see that? I want to check what it is.- Roy started to untie his rope and leaped to the ground, landing right next to the structure. He touched it and a part as big as his fist fell off. He just picked it up and tried to take a closer look as they heard shouting from above. Something seemed to be wrong but here in the cave they couldn't check out what it was. Sevastian was already climbing upwards and Roy put the small object into his pocket and reached for the rope when the cave was filled with complete darkness. A swarm of scrubbies rushed inside. They directly headed for Roy and he already raised his arms in order to protect himself from the incomming masses but the blue bodies didn't hit him. They streamed around him and covered the whole geode. Everythig except for the scientists was burried under the school of organisms and he quickly reached for the rope in order to climb up. Sevastian reached for the flat ground around the hole and climbed out, looking back for Roy. He was about 2 meters away from the entrance when the scrubbie swarm passed him again and as he looked down he saw nothing but an empty geode, filled with beautiful crystals. But the gems were not dimm anymore. They were actually glowing and seemed to radiate a slight light and there was no sign of the strange device. When Roy reached the entrance climbed out of the hole and sighed slightly. -They just dissolvd it... Whatever it was we found there is now in the stomach of those scrubbies. But I was able to recover a small part before those blue... things... arrived. - He reached into his pocket and revealed a strange object. It looked like an alien artifact and it was made out of different types of crystals which were warm to the touch, and connected with a dimm frame. ![]() -Seems like we have just managed to feed the scrubbies with the most important findings on the whole geode. What the hell was that anyway? And what this might be? -asked Roy showing the artifact to the others. -Hide that thing! Now! I don't want the scrubbies to come back. -Zenon almost shouted at him. -We will examine it back on the ship. -Sure, you're right, but first let's take some scanning inside the cave too. Sebastian started to climb down and Roy lowered him a scanner. Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - equinosz - 07-26-2011 After a week, the scientists were ready with their investigation, so captain Roy made a report, that was sent to Malaclypse. ![]() Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - Malaclypse 666 - 07-27-2011 To: Capt. Roy Khan, Equinox From: Malaclypse Excellent work, Gentlefolk! Your preliminary report has been received, and your findings are most interesting. I notice that there is no data on energy vectors and field strengths outside the Geode itself. I had hoped for a thorough "mapping" of the Baffin system's energetic properties, and in particular specifics on the possible "source" of the energies collected by the Geode. I trust this may just have been overlooked in your eagerness to study our Scrubbies and the Geode itself. As to samples/specimens, please avail yourselves of whatever you need to conclude your research. The "artifact" you found may also be retained for your investigation, but will remain the property of the TAZ at its conclusion. Once again, my thanks. Looking forward to your amended final draft. From: Sebastian Nash Subject: The Report Mr. Mal, After taking a closer look, we have been able to understand the energy fields of Baffin almost entirely. As noted before, the energy waves spread over the whole system, each one originating from the Goddess Geode. Surely, they all have a common source, and after our last expedition we uncovered that it was indeed the small cave where we found the ancient artifact, but in addition to that, the rest of the large crystals seem to amplify this energy, contributing to the emissions, thus becoming secondary sources. This artifact, or rather the energy cell, is the item that was initially used to power these crystals you now find inside the Geode caverns. As for the subject of the energy waves, they seem to attract the scrubbies found all around Baffin, and seem to affect their growth, explaining their uncommon size. We have devised this map of sorts, to explain the energy field of Goddess Geode, and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. ![]() [font=Palatino Linotype]This concludes my report and we expect your feedback, yours truly: [font=Comic Sans Ms]~Sebastian Nash, and the Cambridge Stellar Research. Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - Malaclypse 666 - 07-30-2011 To: Professor Nash, CSR From: Malaclypse Thank you, Sebastian, for the addendum on Baffin's energy distribution. In my estimation, your Group has fulfilled the terms of your Research Grant with the Temporary Autonomous Zoners. The information you have provided will be invaluable in our further researches into the mysteries of Baffin. Your Report, and any further follow-up investigations or research, will remain in the public domain, for the benefit of other Scientists and Researchers. All samples and specimens will remain the property of CSR, with the exception of the power cell located in the small chamber. We will expect its return in a timel fashion. As a token of my gratitude, I would like to make a small donation towards the repair or replacement of your primary vessel, the Equinox. Please advise where the donation should be made. Once again, the TAZ and the Church of Eris Esoteric congratulate you on a job well done. Warm Regards, Malaclypse, Episkopos Prime, COEE (POEE), TAZ Cambridge Stellar Research, Surveillance Mission #3, Goddess Geode, Baffin - equinosz - 07-31-2011 [Incoming message] Sender ID: CSR|RV-Equinox Location: Shasta Orbital Skyhook, Baffin system Thank you for you kindness Mal. I'll attach the necessary information about the bank account you can forward the money. Also, I would have a bigger request. We can patch up the Equinox, but she will never be able to fly into dangerous zones, as the main structure should be completely replaced for that. A few hits and she falls apart. She will be decommissioned and stationed at a planet, where they need to make continuous researches. But before that we need a new ship, which can house the necessary research equipment, and with a decent cargo bay for the small exploration ships. The only suitable vessel would be a carrier class ship, but you know it's not easy to get one as there is no civilian product. And the most neutral ship would be the zoner carrier, the Aquilon. If we make contact with the house governments they might allow us to take it into their space as the ship won't be used for military missions. We need a base for our operations as our work mostly leads us to places far from any trade lanes or civilian stations. Some of our missions might take us to a lot less hospitable places than Baffin and we need a vessel that can both carry our scientific equipment and harbor our smaller research vessels. If that is possible we would also like to register it as a research vessel in order to clearly mark it's purpose. I hope you can help us Mal Most graciously, Roy Khan. [Transmission ends] |
