You make your own station, where you want it, when you want it. Obviously other players might disagree and try to blow it up.

All of these can be controlled by the player. However, you can only sell equipment/commodities that have been delivered to the station and you can only buy equipment/commodities from players if the station has sufficient money.
No restrictions but your station is a big fat stationary target that is available for any body to blow up. Destroying a station takes some effort but building and maintaining a station takes a lot more effort. I would be surprised if a single player could do it by themselves.

You could build a 'outcast' station outside crete but I would expect the corsairs to spend considerable effort in destroying it.

The general strategy is that stations need commodities - like people, water, food, energy and parts to be built and operated. The better supplied a station is, the more resistant to attack it is.

In the distance future, stations might offer a way to project power (i.e. NPCs) but for now player controlled stations are essentially passive.
I'm badly hungover. Does this count?

Questions:

- What about Motar bombardment at night?
- What about server restarts. Will they still be there?

If the station has people, water, food, energy and parts for repair it will easily survive group of players shooting at it for a long time. Once the station runs out of parts, it is easy meat.

Yes, the stations are permanent unless destroyed.

I should mention that stations will be destroyed automatically after a few days if they run out people, water, food, energy and parts.

Let's say I would like to create a station next to Planet Pittsburgh will i be able to add it to an exact sector / grid / location?

Well I like the idea! Its better than getting a barge and can be maintaind by the faction or group, will make mining more fun!

so it will essentially copy your IFF and ID stuff, so if your a indie pirate ship or something and you build a base, any indie Pirate with the same ID and sameish IFF would be able to dock there?
