Rule Proposal for Individuals Creating New Clans - Teal - 03-14-2008

No... Personal experience drives me to this conclusion. I have played on Discovery off and on for about a year. So have other members of my current faction. We have played on FL mods together since the multi play server mods poped up. Why should the five of us that are playing together join another clan when we have the FL player experience of Discovery and can bring other ideas into the community that are not all the same. BTW, we have been in and leaders of three different factions on other mods which give us volumes of experience to start one on Discovery without belonging to an existing one first.

While you're right, Wes, don't forget that what Xoria is proposing is also going to filter out clans, rather than factions that contribute to the cmmunity.

I'm going to abstain from voting on this one. Personally I joined the faction prior to even considering of making one myself. It was Hellfire Legion, and I'm grateful to them and Denelo specifically for allow such person like me to join in the first place, as you can imagine it was quite a risk of getting a player flying a nomad fighter/gunboat, especially back then.

So I don't really think it is any necessary for this rule to exist since any person who really wants to make a faction would first join at least one long-standing existing faction to see how it all works from the inside. Kinda feels natural you would first get to understand the community before contributing something to it. To get to know what people think around, what ideas they might have, if there are those who share yours, and so on. Being independent and then making a faction while being possible could be a bit more difficult since that would be more akin of making something that was already done by the others, as with this it is often comes to be more effective to learn by an example, to see pros and cons and then decide what should make your try successful based on the observation and analysis. Just seems to be rational to myself, but I fully acknowledge there can be other ways and opportunities as well.

Voted 'Yes', should be obvious why.

No - just think about the meaning of 'Freelancer'

My proposal is:
Player(s) should only be allowed to use (new) faction/clan tags if thier (new) facion is offically accepted.
Straight and simple.

I was rash here, I voted yes without really thinking...

the answer is we are doing fine the way it is.

If an indy comes up with a really great idea for a faction, that fits into the server well, I wish them all the best.

I do think that anyone proposing a faction should be active on the forums for at least a month though, give us a bit of a chance to know you arent just some power-hungry dinosaur with no roleplay whatsoever.

faction membership does not garuntee intelligence... (oh how many times that has been proven)

It is very hard to make any form of decision on this one. I can see the merit of both sides of the srguement, but my instinct is telling me to protect the rights of the individual. I mean there are so many people who have so many good ideas, for example the Lane Security bunch. They have, as far as I know, not had any of its members in player factions here before and have made a nicely roleplayed faction that i think should become official.

This rule would stop this kind of thing happening
If a new faction's roleplay isn't very good and the proposal sucks. and yes there have been a few, then we can deal with it in the usual way, perhaps with a little bit less in the way of flames please guys. We do tend to come down pretty hard on bad proposals and get a bit personal, but thats off topic.

Voted no.
