no.. and no...
a LF with a cd and a bomber with an inferno/MR and SN together will make all traders quake in thier boots.
plus the added bonus, if they stall for time to bring backup, the bomber can take them out in 3 supernova hits, (thats with max b/b)
and there aint no way they getting away from you at thruster speed.

It is multiplayer so if you want to bring down a trader get some help or perhaps a bomber. Also traders should keep their bats and bots. Trading ships are expensive, and generally, they are more expensive than a gunboat. Therefore it should take work, or teamwork, to bring them down. Can you honestly expect someone who just payed about 110 mil for an advanced train to surrender money or cargo to a lone pirate fighter?

cruiser and battlecruiser are basicly everyone's 1st choice because battleship is too expensive..
Pirate in a group. GB and a fighter. Or Bomber and a fighter. Or 2 GB's. The ship that deals the least damage should mount the CD.Take people down and move on to another system. Dont wait around for the Uber-Fleet to show.
Don't pirate near a dockable base or a JH.
Pirate in the middle of a TL route. Pirate between a busy JH and where ever most traders go to or come from.
Just some thoughts.

I'mma vote no, Piracy is easy in 13. Ya you get the usual BC come in everyday, but it's still not hard to do. And you shouldn't need a Cruiser to do it. We already have the things getting spammed, we don't need to give them an excuse to do it more.

If you can't pirate in a Gunboat or Bomber then i suggest you look for another field of work,
any transport with a adv shield loaded with bots and bats can be brought down easy.

Let's see, GB needs around.. 30 seconds to splash a Transport, with all his bots and bats.
Average fighter needs MUCH longer, and it's still VERY doable.
You can even pirate in a low level LF, trust me. You just need a Train CD, and you can bore him to death.
So, no and no.
And about KNF being near New Berlin JH - OORP..
Well, are Liberty Navy ships around Leeds/Manchester JH in Magellan OORP too?

Theres a nice vessel for sale on Naha that might solve your problems...
Its one nasty trading vessel! You can smuggle, snuggle and trade with it and with a nice armor upgrade handle most comers...
Pirates are heavily armed career criminals, so it is fitting in RP for them to be outgunned by the military - who are charged with protecting their nations, commerce being a very important part of that function!
I agree with Hoodlum here though, If you get a cruiser, S13 will be so full of cruisers and Battleships that us Traders won't even be noticed anymore..
Big weapons inspire bigger weapons and so forth.
By The way... a bomber or VHF takes my shields down pretty quickly, but you need to remember that if I pilot an advanced Train for a major corporation, I have the financial power to put a contract on you..
If you try to enjoy the RP aspects of it within that context, it might soften your frustrations somewhat.

i m a rather poor pilot, but never had a problem pirating in even a fighter. sometimes it doesn t work, but piracy isnt meant to be a "safe" work. its a risk. - if i sat there in a cruiser - camping traders, it would be boring. a fighter means that you ll have to be on the move, allways paying attention. that a trader has a good chance to shoot you down even. ( those transport turrets hurt, especially at short range, they rip a fighter apart )
piracy works with "up to a gunboat". - and when we have problems with even police flying gunboats ( the NPCs use not even light fighters mk 2 ) - why should the pirates start to pirate in cruisers. besides - most pirates don t have cruisers. - i can t see pirate groups like gaians, LWB, FA, Bundschuh, blood dragons ( well, originally ) etc. use cruisers at all.
when its about protection - i can sit in leeds with my lvl10 bombershield and have the regular npc police patrols come without paying too much attention to it. - they have as much chance to take my shields out as if i was sitting there in a battleship.

as already stated, teamwork is the key.
regarding kusari vessels in sigma13: as long as there are independent blood dragons in cruisers or bombers in new berlin you should be very careful shouting out 'oorp'.
