Funky shape. How do you envision this thing actually mining?

the O Miner - Unseelie - 12-14-2011

The ship settles its ring around an asteroid, the clamps gather the rock, and the mining is done via standard mining lasers cutting into the rock. targeted, short range tractors haul isolated veins of ore into the hold.

Basically, it scans asteroids for nice levels of what its looking for, then it uses mining lasers, tachyons, etc, to cut the rock down to a suitable size, and then manuveres the ring around the rock, where the rock is secured, and real mining is done.

As a player ship, it gets a bunch of mining turrets mounted around the inside of the ring, and blows up rocks. But in the world, real money isn't made targeting tiny rocks, its in finding a big one with lots of ore, grabbing onto it, and cutting it up. That's what you see the Hegemon's doing in the world, hovering next to a rock, connected by fairly flimsy grapplers to rocks for long durations. This is meant to be such a thing, and I hope to, once its textured and complete, put it together with a freelancer asteroid and have it sit there cutting away as the hegemon do. I'd really like to see it replace the static miners that are nominally BMM constructions.

The key thing that I've not been able to show yet is that this thing is big. Lots of that has to do with it lacking surface detail and texturing, but this isn't a SHF, its a transport sized beasty, just like the Hegemon.

Bump, and, hey, I'm the only one posting here, but I'm producing things. This is what I'm going to be learning to texture on. Sooo...its about to get lots of love. =D

check it out, the Dray, complete with a few new rills, bay doors, and windows

This ship looks nice!
But mining rock? Hmm...i think it could be gas miner or something like that will fit it more.

the O Miner - Unseelie - 12-15-2011

buut...bretonia has no gas? +1

the O Miner - Maelstrom - 12-15-2011

I like the look of it. I can see it as a miner of ore or gas, either way. Give it a texture, if you can. I'd love to see this finished.

If that ring is supposed to encompass a roid, it'll need to be reshape-able. Texture it accordingly. I'm still not convinced that this'll end up a plausible miner.

No it won't. Make it large enough to fit the largest asteroids while the smaller ones need not fit so snug.

it's sp awesome! i am not exacly convince with the front-cockpit-place .. most of Bretonian ships have the NOSE with a cockpit or bridge in front most of them have ROUND nose...i don't know if you know what I mean:Dit's kinda hard to explain - and this one has exacly the oposit - his nose has been cut out or at least he got knocked down by a baseball bat:D:D:D so yeah it's cool and all I am just not convinced witht he nose thingy.

Very nice. The ship is coming along very, very well. A few suggestions;
Add some mechanical details to the ring.
Add more details similar to the underside of the ship and the area immidiatly behind the cockpit to the area at the back of the ship above the engine.
Make the engine itself thinner and longer.
