There are two people who decide what is forbidden in the server and what isn't, and that's Igiss and Me. I'm the server admin, and I'd much like to keep the server as "fair to everyone" as possible. I've seen how the somtaww gunboat can mount BS shields, and trust me... I didn't like the outcome. THREE on ONe, and the damn ship never took a dent in the shield.
Battleship shields on gunboats I don't think is a very bright idea for two reasons.
1) the Gunboat isn't a battleship, nor should it be able to take them on head-on alone.
2) the increased hit points of the battleship shield makes them next to impossible to kill, even with me firing Infernos. I haven't tested it completely, but the firepower of my advanced battlestar's enough to take it out. The gunboat is, however, about as maneuverable as a cruiser, making it a bit of a target. iot's also smaller, so if you manage to get it to turn fast, it'll be come hard to hit.
Personally, i'll only allow BS shields on either Battleships or Cruisers. Nothing else.
Cruiser shields on cruisers or gunboats.
Gunboat shields on freighters I think i would allow.

I don't think having cruiser shields on gunboats is good. It still makes it unbalanced and they will be better than a cruiser, good enough to seriously hurt or destroy a BS. Also gunboat shields on frieghters would be a very bad idea except for the freighter/gunboat (forget if it is Somtaww or the other one).Freighters would be strong enough to take out a VHF or two like that. Oh and cruiser and BS shields should be restricted from Trains. Gunboat is okay but that still makes pirating Very Hard to Impossible.

Can I have a BS shield on {TG}-nadesico (it's a kusari destroyer) because:-
A) I took the trouble to write an RP piece about why I've got one,
and
B) because I've always had one on my crusiers since I tried a Kusari BS

I think Wolf said it was okay. Even though I think it should have only a cruiser shield. BS shield can be on BS and Cruisers, cruiser shields on Cruisers and gunboats, and gunboat shields on gunboats. I think thats what he said.

I might have to switch to a BS anyhow.
I got an inferno turret, it can fire 3 times before the energy recharge rate of my Kusari destroyer is slower then the turret fire rate. So now I'm gonna be saving up for and comparing BS's.
On a side note the flak turrets are still useless as dedicated anti-fighter weapons, though if they do hit a fighter it makes a big mess :$
So I'm gonna be equipping my ship with at least 2 inferno turrets, several flak turrets for pounding thru hull armour and alot of normal turrets to kill fighters. If only I could get the blasted group fire thing to work......................

Freighters can no longer mount GB sheilds, i had 1 equiped and it crashed every time i launched, but with a Freighter sheild it seemes to be fine.
