All fights in disco are gang warfare, sometimes it starts with gang size of 1 but wait a minute the numbers will probably change.
It might be ooRP. But why denying fun for single people if it's possible not to gank and handle it the less firework-style way. We are here to have fun after all. I do not have anything against the special cases already mentioned as examples but I am currently against exaggerations. Also...in reality, so definitely inRP, fleets do not use all their biggest ship for taking out some fighters. Might be an example right here but I think you know what I mean.

Personally I believe that Ganking is fine if it is in RP. A 'gank' should be deemed appropriate if it would be ludicrous for the parties 'in RP' to not engage. Take the point McNeo made about defending the trader. A lawful couldn't just sit aside and allow a trader to be killed, as much as the pirate may complain. And in a similar vein a miner has every right to call on 6 of his allies to defend him, and prevent his entire ore cargo that he spent hours mining from being lost.
In reality I see all encounters as a part of RP in some way or another, where space is a cold hard place to die, which you really do want to avoid with every means at your disposal. So there is no 'in RP' reason for holding back, even in the interests of fun.
Side note: I mainly fly Xenos, so I know perfectly well what it is like to be the target of a ganking.

If you're on the wrong end of ganking stop crying and get some damn backup.

I don't hear anyone complaining about ganking on Battlefield, of Crap of Duty... sigh.

Nobody cares- once gank is 1 player killing 3-4 new players too- go judge them, it also depends on the situation. Such topics are useless.

To accept it is the only way to guarantee that you will never ever feel frustrated after the combat situation, and will get as much fun from the game as possible. :)
EDIT: The only exception to this is when someone from your side pm's you to leave him alone and let him have a duel, or fair fight, or some other way to show own skill and/or get killed in combat (usually latter...). Then ye, it can be considered.

i acting depends on situation and what i have in it. if i find gboat pirating and i have only snubs with me then there is no other way to deal it. but if i found gboat and fly gboat myself i will only ask someone one to support me in case if that boat flying better then i. so there is no vote for me

I've been ganked by Ryummel, SeaFalcon, Joe, Dubstep and Ench, too many times to count. Not all at once you understand, one a time... because they're that much better than me. "Gank" is merely a term for unfair fight. And sure some fights are unfair. Some fights should be.

I like ganks when I have atleast a wingman. Gank is another meaning for "Numerous red targets to shoot", it's fun
