Codename weapons these days are WAY overpriced, but you don't have to go and find a wreck and hope that it hasn't been looted.
Essentially, you are paying for the convenience of NOT having to do what I said above.
Technically speaking though, it really comes down to how much money you have and how good a pilot you are.
If you can hit more often than not, then codename weapons might be useful, if it's the other way around, go for faction weapons, which are almost as good these days and a darn sight cheaper.
