If a faction has the necessary activity and want to fly, it -will- fly. It doesn't need an arbitrary number of hours. Those who are under the 48 hours will simply fly a bit more to keep their status.

You're changing nothing, congratulations.
Exactly. So let the server be forcefully more alive with official faction members performing their duty and representing their faction in game, flying their ships.

Yes, it is true we become upset with the fact some of our "Official Factions" are hardly around. In some cases I'm surprised how some even meet the bare minimum other than logging in then going AFK. However raising the hour requirements won't change things too much. If a faction is having activity problems then either the faction is far too boring or most members have real life situations. It is up to faction leadership to keep planning entertaining events, making those events public, and constantly attempt to replace old recruits with new ones. Some leaders absolutely refuse to accept it might be time for them to step down allowing a new leader to take his/her place. I'm sure in most cases that new leader is just as inactive as the old even if by forum. Inactivity doesn't fall short from its simple solution of actually being in game where your faction can be noticed.

Well this is one of the more transparent anti-faction threads for a while. There's a very small but supremely vocal group of chaps on the forum who dislike factions and they seem to have created some kind of echo chamber of imagined terror from oppressive factions.

What powers, bro?

Last time I checked, the only right I had was the right to fill in a form and PM it to the admins.
The faction rights/powers are insanely feeble so as to not offend/marginalise anyone, to the point where they are basically nothing, yet still manage to cause true outrage for some.

The rephack/techchart thing? Notice how OS&C and Unione Corse, groups with no official faction, their players got an equal say to official faction members. Wasn't an exclusive thing. If you raised the activity tracker to a week or whatever so only bowex and img and sairs still existed, the same thing woulld have happened. The guys who have been quietly being gaians since the dawn of time would have still been listened to because they're still the ones who know what they're talking about.

Being official brings you more or less nothing. A handful of factions get to write a post about laws which you can still effortlessly break, and that's about it. All the responsibility exists, and more besides.

P much the only tangible benefit to being official is that you get moaned at for being official on the forum sometimes.

If this thread is a sincere request to promote official factions taking a larger role in the game then disregard this post. But it's not.

I've read a lot of misplaced wishful thinking lately, but this is on a wholly different level.

Basically, what Benjamin said.

But it is. Even if you think otherwise.

I consider it rather hypocritical that one who is now calling himself proudly an indie (or non-official-faction, at least) is trying to demand that others work up to some arbitrary standards which he himself does not abide to.

No its not the time for even more regulations. Not every faction can afford player bases, nor does every faction have the contacts in RP to keep it supplied.

Faction that has only minimal number of players will have trouble, but then again, what are you doing to only meet the low limit? If your faction is not interesting to pool players and make actual impact on gameplay, why should you get the right?

Some factions are simply not able to have an impact ingame, because their role is not that interesting or important in the lore, considering that factions can only take a really limited influence on this lore it can hardly be their fault alone. LWB comes to mind, GC comes to mind, AFA, I think I could find some more that simply dont have that much to do. THey sure could find things to do, but those things would lead them out of their roleplay (GCs and LWBs sitting in NY drinking coffee for example?)

Spreading 48 hours through let's say 8 players would be easy. That is 6 hours per 30 days, which is equal to what, 12 minutes each day? And don't get started on "This is a game, not a job" when you already try to keep the official status.

12 minutes a day is quite a lot for some people, right now I do not see any benefits coming from the official faction status that would be worth spending that much time.

Currently only 5 or so factions would be in danger zone. This is not a lot and they would be forced to step the game up.

Sure, lets kill the small factions, sounds like a really good plan.

What are the opinions of community members?

No. Dont need, Dont want.

' Wrote:I mean, getting nerf chart and ID rephacks are not another one of perks Official Factions obtains over WHOLE NPC faction, including it's indies? What you did for that in addition to simply playing the game and making few posts there and here?

A whole NPC faction can be the LN, with many influenced individuals, but it can also be the LWB or the Unioners. I dont think that I saw more then 5 Indies of either in the last 2 years

Plus it is not about the power. It is about of actually making impact on server gameplay. If someone has the authority over NPC faction but fails to actually make any impact in game, what's the point?

The point is that factions dont get as much influence as you seem to imagine them to have.

Making faction interesting should be leader's responsibility, and keeping activity responsibility of players who chose to join the faction.

Okay, if you say so.

No, because this is two sided question. Yes/No to increased activity. Nothing else.

See, even you say No to this

Quote:I currently am in two unofficial groups. I have way more fun then I ever had in official faction or even being indie before.

Now, why would you even ask for this if it doesnt even involve yourself? Play your unofficial factions and leave things as they are, I dont really see a problem with those 30 hours we have now.

Quote:Exactly. So let the server be forcefully more alive with official faction members performing their duty and representing their faction in game, flying their ships.
No thats actually just killing the official factions. I for myself wont let anyone 'force' me to play a game just for the sake of being an 'official faction leader'.

Im strictly against that 48 hours idea.

No thanks Snake3.

30 hours are fine. If you want to increase them, you'll have to give something to factions that justify the increased number of hours.

Of course you do. That is because you don't have any responsibility. That is what sets official factions on a higher level than most unofficial factions. They bear a level of responsibility others can't or won't bear.

Anyways, sure up the minimum when you give official factions more power/rights/reason to be official. As it stands now, the only real reason to be official is for the status of being official. Which in all reality, isn't worth the effort.

And before you try to say something to me for saying that: I'm part of the [GMS]. We gave up our status willingly because we saw zero need to have it. OSI? We've contemplated it numerous times. Though, I'll admit our promised ID is very much incentive to keep the status and be a model for other factions.

For me the contributions made to the Disco Universe via the Forum sections "Stories & Biographies", "Communications Channel", "Factions", & "Sirus News & Commerce" far outweigh any sort of server based time commitments.

Often high amounts of server activity is simply a sign of lolwuts doing out of character trading or pvping.
