Well, the current planets would have to be terraformed first. Such as Atka and Gaia (that one won't be terraformed, not if the NLH are still around).

Decent idea though Tenacity. New planets would be cool, without them "magically" appearing into space in a new edition.

I strongly disagree with this. The reason I PLAY Freelancer at all, is to enjoy it. I have discovered that I am not a programmer by any means. I don't need to suggest things from a coders point of view. If all of us did that then we'd still be playing with the Text based adventures (which I might add is a strong side of Disco RP already.):D

The reason I suggest buying/selling planets is to get people to think about it. I still think it's quite possible in the current Disco - without any added coding. Of course it wont be enforceable when the owner isnt on, but much like lots of RP stuff that happens, if the involved parties agree, then stuff happens. Say for example Liberty decides to sell Denver, I would imagine that we could have an auction or a buy out. You could have RP stories about the hostile takeover of planet XYZ. Or about how the stockmarket fell through and ABC company sold a planet to recoup costs. The price I was thinking of for a planet would be 1.3 Billion, seeing as how a whole system is 2 billion.

Thanks for correcting me Sovereign. I forgot how to spell it and was too lazy to find out how.

You will get ooRP fights no matter what you do. If you left over such a small thing, then I'm sure we would miss you.

I don't think it power whoreing any more than asking to buy a house, or making a company and declaring yourself CEO, or buying a system.

...
Now theres an idea.

There you go! There's the spirit!

Besides...all this is moot. It was just a thought.:)

actually coding in buying/selling of planets would probably be impossible.

However, it could be done via-rp (players would have to enforce it though). I only see it happening for faction-owned systems however, and you can already tax people in your clan's system, planet or not. So there really isnt a need.

I think selling-buying planets is not a very good idea.
It would be more realistic to buy/constuct bases. Like smaller groups, factions, who cannot, or just dont want to buy a system, they could get a single base, in a system what they like the most.
Just an example: maybe the BPA could have a nice little base, in the orbit of Leeds, or a bundshu base in New Berlin, etc..

Planets won't be for sale, maybe stations, because you can build them, but no planets. You only can terraform unhabitable planets, but never "build" any from scratch. Though that'd be a very kewl thing, cloning Earth and such...

And if we could buy planets., I'd already have bought Planet Gaia as NLH's new base of operations.

I'll sell you Maine for a measly 1 billion credits. You can terraform it if you want.

Alternatively, I have found a planetesimal asteroid in the Texas system. Seeing as I was actually the first and only person to find it, it belongs to me. I'll sell you the coordinates if you like; it'd make a nice base when hollowed out. 100 million credits will do suffice.

And what you meant to say here

was
Code:
Say, for example, each privately owned planet and the 2km around it would be the sovereign territory of the person who owned it.

Sorry, it bugs me when people misuse/misspell anything with the root 'sovereign'. Any wild guesses as to why?

Because it is your name. *Looks triumphant.*:yahoo:

I had to state it. For those people who don't know why.:nyam:

There would be an issue, NPCs. Although someone might buy the planet, it would still have NPC patrols coming from it that belong to the original faction.
TEs (Territorial Engagements) in other mods have this issue. If a base or planet changes hands, a patch is needed to change the NPCs.

Other than that, It would be a nice idea. Just can't see any government selling a planet. Why would they want to? Player faction wise I mean.
