I was only sanctioned a single time in the entire time I play here, the atmosphere seems friendly enough to me, just respect 0.0 and all's gonna be fine.

You see a lot more reports and sanctions for one single reason. The server is now popular with new people... that hardly read the rules and just go in...

I've played FL on many a server - many a mod.
If you take an honest look at the numbers of players on each server/mod, and figure out the ratio of sanctions to players, you'll probably find that GC is one of the least sanction-happy servers around.
Truly.

As stated above, rule 0.0 is really the lynchpin.

Too many people today have no responsibility to 'community' and live in their insulated digital worlds, treating other absolutely real human beings as if they were toys that exist only to entertain them.
This is especially true with people (like us) who invest large amounts of time in their little digital worlds because they rarely have to face any real-life consequences for their selfishness.
Especially consequences that sting - ones that teach lessons.

This is the curse of the online gamer.

Is it gonna get fixed anytime soon?
Likely not - it can only get worse as people cease learning to talk TO each other, and only talk AT each other. (see: Twitter, text messaging, etc. ad infitum)

Is there a solution?
Yup - in-game consequences.
Consequences that sting - ones that teach lessons.

You can teach SOME people simply by talking to them, explaining things, remembering their humanity and HELPING them to understand the game, the rules, the little details.
But some people are convinced they know better than you, or that you are trying to ruin their fun. No matter how much you explain, how much time you waste TRYING to help, you still run into a brick wall.

That's what the sanctions are for.
The admin staff here doesn't hand out sanctions for laughs - they are trying to teach lessons.
Sometimes the lessons sting.

I am a parent - if I tell my kids "Don't do that." and leave it at that, guess what they'll do.
Sometimes it takes a swat on the arse or a long time-out to get my point across.
Does it mean I love my kids less? Does it mean I don't want them to succeed? That I hang around rubbing my hands just waiting for them to screw up?
Not even a teeny little bit.

I think of sanctions much the same.

There's one other factor in play at the moment. There has been/is large a backlog of violation reports, well over 100 unprocessed reports. With the new admins on board, we're working towards clearing that backlog. Hopefully once the backlog is cleared, the number per day will reduce to a more manageable level.

I remember hearing that one last time. You funny guy, Cannon.

On a less toxic note.

As much as people should try to explain the rules to people (and such, where they went wrong) before playing Sanctionlancer, many of the violators will scream profanity at you or go 'STOP RULES LAWYERIN' BRO I SANCTION YOU FOR IT'.

Gold rush aint got nothing on the Penny rush.

DSE Ships as far as the eye could see, running convoys of twenty down the lanes to Narita in New Tokyo.

I doubt many people realise how difficult it is to manage that many people in transports/escorts. :P

'People who do not preserve the transport order will be ejected from the convoy!'

' Wrote:all sanction are all money all guns all money all guns in 1 ship or all ships in the account

do you think this is right for every rule you break??

No i think that should be for the small first time violators. All the rest should have the chars deleted. If only a snub? have there biggest ship deleted, with all gear and cash onboard.

You are right that lately you need to screen to protect yourself. To many A-holes are doing stupid crap trying to get you to do something against rules so they can report you.
Also there is alot of reports because of alot of stupid people playing that just do not get the rules. Hell in last 2 hours i was attacked 3 times without any RP. Once was from an LNS that has been here for over 6months. 1 Lib fighter CDs me no problem, we Chat/RP a little then go snub to snub. Fair enough. Then 2 LNS players in BCs come in shooting no words at all. 1 is 6month vet or more, other who knows. But my point is, If i filed a report on this everytime it happened i would play 2 hours, and spend 5 hours filing reports.

So NO! i do not think the fines are to much, i think they are to soft, and that the sanctions would be greatly reduced if admins came down harder on violators.

For example most players like myself who have played awhile, and have many chars, and cash saved up would not even feel a 500mil fine. But if for example the admins decided to Delete 1 of my chars worth about 500mil with many hours invested then that would hurt, and make me say " Oh crap, i better not ever do that again"

Also i find many report for OORP attacks, because a player did not say "I am attacking you now, be ready" Well sorry if a pirate, or lawful has been saying if you do not pay tax/fine he will kill you for 5 minutes, and I decide enough, and start shooting then it was a legal attack as RP has been done for 5 minutes. You do not have to say. "ok. I am not paying, so now we fight" pew pew.
