Shadow, can you walk me through the overrides?

Freelancer on Ubuntu - darkshadow - 04-04-2009

Scroll down to the end of the first page of the thread, there's a list of all necessary files.

If you need a guide to using overrides in WINE:
http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/config-wine-main
Read part 3.1.2.1.

Freelancer works.FLMM works, eaven FLAM works under ubuntu.
But no Moltyplayer support for now,or atleast i cant get it to work.

Freelancer on Ubuntu - darkshadow - 04-04-2009

To play FL online you need to add overrides for DirectPlay in winecfg:
dplayx.dll
dpnet.dll
dpnhpast.dll
dpwsockx.dll
It will lag online, but it's playable.

Well, I'm a die-hard *nix fan, but... I dual-boot for FL - getting it to work under Wine would just not be worth the hassle, and having Windows available is sometimes useful. It's not really hard nor expensive to *cough* find a Windows XP installation CD and dual-boot. Otherwise, well, get used to some lag and fiddling whenever a new version of Wine comes out.

I followed the instructions, but after the "Freelancer" screen i get an error

There's a few submissions on WineHQ's AppDB. Shows how to install / getting it up, you just need to use the actual version it was tested on.... it would yield better results.
