RE: Experiment successful. Discovery is not a good place for newbies. - Solace - 01-16-2013 Thats funny cause the last guy was doing exactly what you described in the video. Are there several of you doing this? RE: Experiment successful. Discovery is not a good place for newbies. - DSE)Spartan - 01-16-2013 OK , here is another angle... I think this server has quite some "medium - experienced" players... like myself. Now the other day I encountered a vessel (can't remember what type exactly) in Tau-23, pirating me. Funny thing in my experience was that the dude had a Freelancer IFF, but Pirate ID ?! I start PM-in him OORP : //Hey man.. is this legal ? Pirate ID / Freelancer IFF ? The player assured me that this was completely ligit according to current server rules, so I just let it go... being a medium - experienced player. Now.. I still don't know exactly if he was playing according to server rules, but I can imagine that more players like me would be unsure in certain situations. So in a couple of cases I'm just not sure enough about my case to "reprimand" a fellow player. Of course... in the case of double ID or even NO ID , I would not hesitate, but address that player and tell him he's not playing the game according to server rules. But in other cases I just might hesitate. (ow.. and could anyone explain me if the Pirate in my example was ligit ... and why ? ) Thanks, RE: Experiment successful. Discovery is not a good place for newbies. - SeaFalcon - 01-16-2013 Well, that was interesting. Liberty Rogue Molly ID'ed Barghest in Liberty. Sometimes it's easy to claim, someone should help out a guy. But it's often enough hard to spot if people do stuff on accident or on purpose as there are enough people 'lolzing' around with low-tech stuff to made fun of others. Anyway, the barghest was a newbie trying to RP. Noticed since he linked his transport character as his other ship. Had a nice time explaining what and how things work here on Discovery, and to my surprise he had the decency to listen. Something that doesn't happen very often with new guys due to their own "I know better" attitude. So saying you should help people out more, is easier said then done. It's not always obvious if things were done on purpose or not. RE: Experiment successful. Discovery is not a good place for newbies. - Govedo13 - 01-16-2013 There are few simple solutions like introducing proper restarts for all factions or proper total repninjas with each ID. I cannot remember the last time when I made character from scratch since it just takes at least 1 hour to fully equip and repp it, if you count the basic map/holes addons or exotic combos like Rogue Maruder then it is more then 10-12 hours in-game time... Better Info Items for new characters explaining the basics are also required. I can see 3-5 Items each of them with different basic information. Angels in my opinion are quire useless, people logg in to play the game not to serve as helpdesk operatiors, the help should be automatized and really easy to access. RE: Experiment successful. The Freelancer IFF is the "appropriate" IFF for indie pirate, as there is no generic unlawful IFF. Space is dangerous, trust no one. I've had lots of playes complain at me afterwards I've stolen their stuff on my indie Pirate / Freelancer IFF ship; and it sucks having to explain it over and over again to players who feel "cheated" - and I can actually to some degree understand why those players do feel like it's foul play. There are a lot of details and stuff you have to dive into old forum discussions to really get a clue of, but I reckon the best we can do is help each other and use the forum. It would be great for server and newbie distribution if there was a green bit of information text for new players regarding restarts, like there is on "Discovery of Discovery". RE: Experiment successful. Discovery is not a good place for newbies. - Swallow - 01-16-2013 So we`ve realized that things are bad. Let`s just fix them, okay? RE: Experiment successful. Discovery is not a good place for newbies. - Lumik - 01-16-2013 (01-16-2013, 01:56 PM)Rodnas Wrote: Well, it is easy for me to point at "Liberty" and say that the players there are lazy -as a Corsair i get to run into newbies 2 times a month and then i simply don't care to take my time and explain stuff for 30 min or more for each. That is it also. Sometimes you are not in mood for doing helpdesk. Sorry but not. I don´t fly in Liberty much, but in other houses, I´m saying to people in trains 3600+ cargo that they have Freelancer ID via personal chat. Some of them thank to me as they forgot to change ID. Some are surprised because they didn´t read FL ID limitations. Some of them not answer. But I helped in this at least to 15-25 players instead of reporting them for example in last months. And there were others like outcast gunship trying to pirate me with Recruit ID ![]() But still, if I meet wrong IDed player for third time in two hours, I sometimes don´t have mood to explain them why they need another ID and which one should they use (very common question). Sorry, but sometimes I´m tired or want to relax and enjoy a fun. And IFF? I don´t care in most cases. I estimate that every fifth player has wrong IFF (he don´t have any despite he has corporate ID, also most players in Liberty use Navy IFF despite they are traders etc.). And it is not easy to quickly explain IFF concept and how to fix it/change it to someone who really know nothing about it. So to say - one can´t change the Disco and help all of the people if he don´t want sacrifice his fun being there. Why there is just few Angels (maybe one as somebody said)? Because it is not fun. And we all are here for fun. But to say something positive in the end - hey, if every of us will try to help one person per day, just one, it will change Disco to better. Let´s try it
