The nomad fighters/gunboats are easy to take out, but it takes me ages to kill the battleships (they cant really do me much harm as long as i'm careful, I just dont have the firepower to take them out quickly).
I suppose I could always bring along a bomber or another destroyer with an anti-capship setup to take out the battleships though.

Not entirely sure what you mean by that. I'm sure Freeport 7's wreckage is in Sigma-17 *shrugs* Probably missing the point of your statement, but eh.

In the single-player intro movie, the event occurred in a cloned version of, not the real Sigma-17. Discovery has enabled this system and is now known as Omicron Lost.

the nomad ships in kappa HURT though =(
Seriously, those things can wipe out a battleship's shields in seconds, nowhere else do nomads have weaponry that powerful.
